I never could fully get into Spirit because imo while the folk elements are great (I love the hurdy gurdy), I find a lot of the metal parts to be stale and weak.

Yeah, its that shitty melo death influence. Still love them though. But I wish the singer would die.

I was pleased to learn from their myspace, however, that their next release is going to be a two disc set: one full length of non-metal folk, and then a MCD of folk metal.
