EMG's in a Les Paul or an SG?

So I just bought an EMG 81/85 set, that I was originally planning to put into my SG standard. Well, I was playing around on my Les Paul Standard tonight, and I started to think that I might be better off with the EMG's in the LP.

Any thoughts on which would be a better move? Both guitars currently have the stock pickups. I play mostly rock-ish, standard tuned, old-skool metal. The reason I am going EMG is because although they play WAY differently, the LP and SG sound fairly similar, so I want to be able to differentiate them a bit more in my mixes.

For an LP standard you need the long EMG pots to fit on the metal plate in the control cavity through to the top.
I have an LP standard and would never dream of putting EMGs into it. It's perfect as is.
I just put a set of EMGs into an ESP Eclipse custom full thickness (which is very like an lp std) with 85 at the bridge and 81 at the neck and it sounds amazing.
