metalchurch , testament. i only remember the crowd and the LOUD.
alot of local bands between 85 and 91 when it closed..or was it 92?.
and the CELL BLOCK in andalusia, also gone now , i saw ingwie there...good show.
'G wilikers' in NJ. good shows there too , alot of hardcore.
'citygardens' in N.J., punk and hardcore metal.

so does anyone remember the "good ole' days around philly?:headbang:

Wow. I had completely forgotten about the Empire. I wasn't there much, but recall them getting a lot of good shows. I spent most of my time seeing the shows in the Spectrum, back when the bands I listened to sold out arenas :)

On a more recent, but similar note, I really miss the Birch Hill club in Old Bridge, NJ. It was about 90 minutes away, so it wasn't perfect, but it was a big stop for many bands. Now, many of them hit BB King's in NYC and Jaxx in VA, and skip Philly completely.

The band I was in played the Cell Block, back in 91 or 92. If I remember correctly, we opened for locals Vicious Circle (who are still around and are a signed act nowadays). I also think Nuclear Assault was supposed to play, but it never got to that point because a bunch of skinheads started fighting with everyone. Next thing we know, cops are all over, and there's bloodied people out in the parking lot.....we got the hell out of there.
