ENTOMBED - Clandestine

I've always preferred this over Left Hand Path (which is good but overrated IMO). For the most part, Clandestine is a death metal homage to Sabbath's Master of Reality. I mean, some of the riffs are practically lifted right out of "Lord of this World" or "Children of the Grave", all the while interspersed with old school Swedish tomfoolery!!!

I always liked Entombed over their counterparts simply because their music makes you think a little. It undulates. Or rather it oscillates. Like that pendulum in the Exorcist which keeps stopping every time max von sydow looks at it. Great stuff really.

That is all.

Some of the songs on Left Hand Path are classic. I want to get Clandestine eventually and I only heard a few songs from it from mp3s awhile back. I expect it to be good.

Just wondering, what do you think of later Entombed albums such as Wolverine Blues or Morning Star for example?

5) Actually I can't think of a single old school Swedish DM band that released better material later in their career, any examples (I'm assuming Dismember, which I would disagree with)?
.

Well, Asphyx aside then...

as for old school Swedish DM bands getting better? Grave is the most obvious one, where Soulless is better than the first 2 (the debut is boring, no other way to describe it). Dismember's Iron Crosses is certainly better than most of their mid-period and their debut wasn't all that either. Unleashed were always pretty blah but I suppose I like their new one.

Anyway, my point is simple: Entombed -- by virtue of their first 2 albums alone -- are always going to be considered the creme de la creme when it comes to this genre IMO.

By the way, with the sheer quantity of albums you collect, how do you even truly listen to anything?!! :goggly:

Well old school Death Metal is my primary focus, so it gets a lot of listens. Frankly, Like An Everflowing Stream and Into The Grave easily crush, stomp, and maim everything else done by another of the four major Swedish DM bands, and their certainly better than each respective bands' more recent outputs. IMO OMG LOLLERSKATES. I honestly cannot think of a single old school Death Metal band who has put out an album later in their career that I think is better than anything they've done earlier on. I have a hard time coming up with ANY bands that accomplish this feat, actually. I do think that the first two Entombed albums are rightly hailed as classics, of course, but I also don't think they're the best the genre has had to offer.

I still love Asphyx. Man, other than God Cries, they didn't release a weak album.

As for Sweden, Into the Grave is awesome filthy stuff. Runemagick's first three are very good, underrated albums.

LHP>Clandestine simply for the vocals.
