Epica North American Tour 2012

Told you so. Awful package.
Who did Epica piss off to headline a motley crew like that? There are so many far better bands that are far more worthy of opening this tour that it is not funny. What, Halcyon Way, Seven Kingdoms, Aska and Echoterra were not available?

Insomnium! Screw it, even if there's a djent band on the bill... INSOMNIUM! Can't wait to see dates for this, Insomnium is nearing the top of my list of "must see" bands!

Epica didn't piss off anyone. It's not that easy to get such and auch bands on a tour. There's a lot of reasons behind it, and quite a bit of politics sometimes. Playing the "same style" of music doesn't guarantee a spot on the tour.

 Agreed

While the package as a whole is a bit odd, I would absolutely love to see Insomnium. This will be their second U.S. tour and besides the fact that they didn't play a show in Atlanta back then I also had no idea who they were. I will definitely be going to this if it's at all possible. I highly encourage everyone to give them a listen.

Serious or not, destiny potato is the stupidest band name ever. :D

No. It's still Job For a Cowboy. And that's considering there are grindcore bands called Weekend Nachos and Pizza Hi-Five. Job For a Cowboy is still the dumbest name for a band, ever.

and also the worst tour package this year.

This...awful is being too kind.

Gotta disagree. I mean, sure I'm not sold on a band called Destiny Potato and System Divide are about as generic as they come, but Insomnium are fucking incredible, and Alestorm are a lot of fun. Epica will be good as well, considering their latest album is pretty fucking sweet. So, maybe it's a little bit disjointed genre wise, but still a fun show.

It could be way worse. It could be that Rockstar Mayhem tour: Asking Alexandria and other like bands opening for Motorhead and Slayer? Really?!

Agreed. Labels do tours with a "motley crew" to hopefully get a wide range of fans at the show; however, I think this backfires on bands sometimes because then each band only has less than half of the audiences attention and fervor. If an audience is into every band because the style is similar, wouldn't it be a more energetic show for all involved?

What i agree with most is, the new Insomnium album is MIND-BLOWING and I can't WAIT to be able to see them. I'd love to see them at PPUSA. I'm sure to enjoy them most out of this lineup, I hate to admit. Of course, I've seen Epica a few times in my life already, so the novelty of seeing Insomnium for the first time adds to that. But Insomnium is more what I'm listening to these days as well.

LOL, Job for a Cowboy at least is a combination of words that could make sense in English, sentence-wise. Meanwhile, what the fuck is a destiny potato? Some daily special at the Forever Diner?

Really? Why, I wonder? Then again, I made eternal fun of the names of Fairyland and Manimal before checking them out and they turned out to be good.

Um, no. I'm pretty sure Nuclear Blast didn't pick the bands on this tour.

Not necessarily. For instance, in this case I think that 80% of the people will be there to mainly see Epica.

Definitely agreed, but there's a whole lot more business behind booking a tour than you'd think. It's not all about the music for most involved.

I'm sure there's more to it than I know. How do you suspect this lineup got put together?

Not necessarily. For instance, in this case I think that 80% of the people will be there to mainly see Epica.

You're probably correct about that. Perhaps a little less, and Alestorm would make up about 15-20%. It's hard to gauge. I know it's not an even 20% across the board, that's obvious.

I'll just never forget the last time I saw Turisas on a motley lineup and everyone in the audience just stood there and stared.

I am, however odd the lineup is, excited at the prospect of the show. I shaln't comment on Destiny Potato, however.

No. I still say this is the worst band name ever.

Have the dates/venues been released yet? Couldn't find it on their website.
If the NY date is within a week of ProgPower, I probably won't go. I'll be in recovery mode and the support bands aren't enough to drag me out.

It will be called "beta nerds cry because not every band takes themselves seriously tour" !

Whatever man. Case in point, Alestorm is fucking awesome. Just saw them at Paganfest last night and they KILLED it. They epitomize not taking themselves seriously. Even though it's total cheese, it rules.

There is not one single thing that is good about the name Destiny Potato. It's just plain fucking stupid, and no backstory exists that could redeem it.

I'm totally going to this. Epica, Alestorm and Insomnium in one show? Yes, please. And I want to buy a Destiny Potato shirt.

There's another band called Goatpenis too. I definitely believe that's the worst name ever because bands like that are actually srs, wherase JFAC, Weekend Nachos, etc are obviously not srs.

Wow, these aren't even remotely the worst band names ever.
You all need to explore the underground punk scene, esp in the 80s.

one of my favorite bands was called W.T.G (Whoppers Taste Good).
