Epica - The Quantum Enigma

Got this in the mail today. Just finished my first listen. Definitely a move in the right direction.

I love their whole catalog. But the last album (Requiem for the Indifferent) is my least favorite. All the songs were good and even above average....but there is the rub - normally Epica has at least 2-3 amazing to fantastic songs (IMHO) on each album. Songs you remember later. Requiem lacked this.

So far, Quantum Enigma has had me look up and smile for more than a couple songs. Need a few more listens to see if my opinion changes but I am very optimistic.

I'm surprised this album has not received more love here from Epica fans. I think it is the best thing they have done in a long time and really stacks up against just about any other album in their catalog. While I liked the last album, it just seemed to be missing memorable hooks or melodies. It took awhile to get into, while this album stuck with me right away. I have been listening to it a ton over the last few weeks.

This is my current favorite song, love the chorus.

I'm very surprised the little buzz this cd has gotten here too. This is still my favorite of the year.....it actually bumped Need's new cd and Moonkings cd down to #2 and #3 respectively. I think Epica's new cd is the best they've done. I'll be listening to it for a long time......I've already listened to it more than all of Epica's other releases combined.

I agree, this is the best album they've put out in a while. There's a lot of memorable songs that stick with me all day, and they're probably as heavy as ever. People should really check this out.

I find that after seeing a band live, my desire to listen to their music changes based on how well I liked their performance (for the most part). That and how good their last CD was affects buzz of the next one.

I've had TQE for about a month now, and it's awesome. Epica's most complete and dynamic album so far, and definitely the best-sounding production they've had yet. I actually did like RFTI quite a bit, but this album IS better. They have 2 shows in Mexico in mid-September, I'm hoping that signals N. American dates shortly thereafter....

EPICA LAUNCH NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR "VICTIMS OF CONTINGENCY"

Dutch symphonic metallers, Epica, have premiered the official music video for "Victims Of Contingency". The video is directed by Remko Tielemans (Textures) and produced by the Kunstoff Kollectiv, the same team who were responsible for the band's music video for "Storm The Sorrow".

Guitarist Mark Jansen comments: “We've picked a heavy and brutal track this time as we wanted to surprise everybody. As "Victims Of Contingency" is also a fan-favourite, we are convinced that it is the right choice. The video for "Storm The Sorrow" has been received very well by the fans so we were very happy to work with Remko and his team again. We think the end result for "Victims Of Contingency" is astonishing and I am very excited that we can finally share this video with all of you! ”
