eric burdon

Excellent singer and musician. Seems to the masses under appreciated, but to his fellow musicians is greatly admired. Was a great friend to Jimi Hendrix, when Jimi took off in England in 66-67. "Spill the Wine, dig that girl." An awesome blues musiian.

i agree that he's underappreciated. one of the best white blues singers ever. have you heard his 2 newest albums my secret life and soul of a man??

Spill the Wine was the coolest song in its day, different ya know, catchy, entertaining. I had some 45 of the Animals as a young kid but I forget which "hit" it was, so he might have been my first rock star. I had the solo album that came, I think right after War. It had the song ? "oh lord, please dont let me be misunderstood". I liked that record alot, there was a couple excellent songs on it, I loved the feel that guitar player had. Thats all I remember and did not keep up with Burdon at all through the years.

You know, I'm really glad you brought this up MDMatt. I'm going to dig out my Eric Burdon. I haven't heard the albums you've mentioned. Are they any good. I saw Mr. Burdon along with Steppenwolf and Edgar Winter back in 93. Burdon did the Hendrix song, "The Wind Cries Mary." sort of a tribute to Jimi. One of those goose-bump moments, you know what I mean?

his 2 newest studio album (my secret life, soul of a man) are considered his best work since the early 70's and i think they are great. both albums are like a mixed bag of all his sounds. blues stuff, animals sounding stuff, worldly music, stuff similar to his work with war. i think they are his best solo albums

I like the Animals a bunch but never gave his solo stuff a chance. Where should I start? Preferably late 60's 70's!

well after the original animals broke up he changed to psychedelic rock as 'eric burdon and the animals" then he was in the band war billed as "eric burdon and war'. he didn't do anything solo until the mid 70's i think. to be honest he still sounds great and really "my secret life" from 2004 and 'soul of a man" from 2006 really are his best solo albums. first off he didn't do basically anything from 1984-2004. "my secret life" was his first solo album in 20 years. you can tell on his older stuff from the 70's he is pretty wasted/drugged up. if i were you i'd get the 2 solo albums i mentioned, the animals retrospective that covered their whole 60's career and includes 1 war song and then get the 2 albums he did with war and you have all of his good stuff. the 2 for 1 album that includes "sun secrets" and "stop" is a good deal and worth owning even though the songs sound dated and also "stop" is missing 1 track so that the 2 albums can fit onto 1 cd
