The album leaked this morning for any interested parties. I haven't gotten a chance to listen to it all the way through, but from the first few songs, this is definately way better than MMA(even though I really enjoyed that one as well). The riffs are heavy as hell and it is just a mix of everything they have done and Tom's vocals sound better than ever. This disc will definately be my main spinner for a while, until the new Bloodbath surfaces(and the new slipknot).

Nothing is erased is my favorite song as of right now. The whole thing is great, but I am still partial to in search of truth and recreation day, but I know this one will definately get better with more listens.

Ugghhh hate leaked music.......please buy cd when it comes out..........that is all...............

Based on the trailers I was expecting to be hit harder right of the bat. That hasn't really happened. It's good no doubt, and initially sounds better to me than MMA, but there hasn't been one track that has really knocked me on my ass.

After listening to it some more, and going back to MMA and inner circle, I realized what is missing to me, and that is the drumming of Patrick. Jonas and is great and all, but I personally liked the way Patrick played(even though Jonas is very similar in style), but Patrick to me is just on a different level playing wise, and the first time I saw Evergrey live was with Patrick and he was nails on, and Jonas is great live, but just doesn't nail everything and play with the precision Patrick did. I guess that is my reasoning behind the last 3 cds really not being as good as they could of been, because I think Patrick behind the skins would of jumped these cds up another level.

I feel the same way. There is no question the drums have a more "mature" sound from the Patrick Carlsson era. Don't get me wrong I am a fan of Jonas, he is very tight and plays the old songs perfect. But there is something missing. Something in the songwriting. I know he is very young and still developing his craft which has been fun to watch over the last few albums...

Torn is yet another sub par offering from Evergrey. However, this should surprise no one. Monday Morning Apocalypse had all the earmarks of a band looking to begin a transition from their trademark sound to something new. Bands only look to make such a transition when they've grown bored with what they had been doing. However, after the failure of MMA, Evergrey had no other option than to return to the formula they seemed eager to abandon. Consequently, Torn is paint-by-numbers Evergrey, that even during its strongest moments leaves the listener with a "been there, done that" feeling. There's nothing flat out awful here. However, there's also almost nothing compelling. And although Tom occasionally pours his heart out vocally and there's an inspired solo or two, the inescapable fact is that the songs fail to capture the listener's ear.

While I fully expect those who can't get enough of Evergrey's palm-muted riffing and Tom's soulful voice to rejoice and proclaim this a comeback album, I see no such victory. If you believe, as I do, that Evergrey's finest releases are In Search of Truth and Solitude, Dominance, Tragedy, than Torn represents four releases and seven years since Evergrey gave us something truly great. Since it will likely be another two years before Evergrey releases the follow-up to Torn, there will be nine years between that release and ISoT. And unfortunately, bands rarely go a decade between great releases.

After some more listenings, I've realized it isn't growing on me more and it just hasn't kept my interest all too much, plus the new Slipknot has become my priority listening. The new Slipknot on the otherhand is amazing and just keeps on getting better and better with every listen. Such amazing choruses, some amazing heavy ass riffs, and Joey's drumming on it is top notch. Their overall feel they present is progressive, at least in my eyes. They have progressed as a band from day one up until now and have just gotten better and better. For naysayers of slipknot, at least giv the new one a shot, and you have to at least give Joey's drumming props and if you think Corey is an awful vocalist, well...I don't know what to say then.

I pretty much agree, Zod. Solid disc, but I definately get the 'been there done that' feeling. I don't plan on shelving it quite yet, but I don't quite feel the Evergrey thrill I used to. All said though I think a lot of the fans that were disenchanted with MMA might find this disc a sound for sore ears, or however you say it.

Agreed. Guys like Glenn and Bear, who just love Evergrey, will probably be all over this disc. To me, this is The Inner Circle, but not as good.

Zod

this album is WAY better than Inner Circle...not sure what disc you are listening to Zod.:goggly:

Likewise. :heh:

Zod

THE EVERGREY rules the universe! THE EVERGREY will not tolerate snide commentary! The EVERYGREY is a jealous GOD who will smite you with the sword of Mighty Swedish Justice!

Do NOT taunt THE EVERGREY. YOU WILL HAVE TO ATONE!

I hope all bastards who downloaded the album early pre-order at least TWO copies, just to make up for their impertinent method of acquiring copyrighted material.
(Like I did). :Saint:

ISOT
Recreation Day
SDT
Torn
And I keep switching SDT and Torn depending on how long ago I listened to Torn.

I think Zod makes it easier for Glenn to figure out who to sign. "Zod doesn't like (insert power/prog metal band here)? Must be good. Think I'll give them an offer!"
