Excellent Emperor news!

All shitposts aside, I'm curious as to how many people think the motivation for Emperor halting shows now is due to greed via not getting good enough offers after the Euro festival season, or whether or not the band just doesn't want to do it for real this time.

The interesting thing is that it had nothing to do with greed. The band wanted to keep it limited and just (mainly) in Europe and Japan. End of story.

Just because they have no plans now to do any more reunion shows doesn't mean they never will. They said they were finished after 'Prometheus', and a few years later, they were back on stage. Minds and circumstances change over time. I hope that theirs will and that they do a U.S. tour, because I'd love to see these guys. They were my introduction to black metal. Seeing Ihsahn play two Emperor songs at ProgPower was amazing, but the real deal would be even better.

When Ihsahn announced the shows they played this year, I remember reading that they were only reuniting to play those specific shows and that they would not record a new album. Thus, the announcement in the original post came as no surprise to me. Ihsahn was pretty clear from the start that they wouldn't do more shows. It's Monday, I'm at work, and I'm too lazy to search for links to back up my post :( so it's possible I'm misremembering.

IHSAHN - "BACK ON TRACK WITH NEW MUSIC AND NEW LIVE SHOWS"

"...Now, this has not kept me entirely busy for the whole year, so since January I’ve also been writing material for the next Ihsahn album, partly interrupted by rehearsals, shows and a total rebuild of our studio.

On the live front, several shows are all ready announced for 2015, and I’m excited to tell you that I’ll be back on stage with a new, handpicked line-up that I am confident will take my songs to a new dimension...."
