Well Orfanos.... After a thorough listen to the Exoristoi CD - while commuting to work , I made the following notes...
The biggest flaw I found is the band seems to lack direction. They do not seem fixed on what they want to accomplish and that lack of focus seems to have made this album difficult listening.
I think It's great for the band to include a variety of material but I'm unable to find their signature sound or unique style that might have made this ablum a bit easier to appreciate.
There are a couple real attention getters on this disc - The first song 'Tomb Of Doom' is a very good multi-paced metal song but it basically ends there for me. 'Ronin' is a good hard rock song which seems to highlight the bands abilities but I find it to be way too similar to Deep Purple's 'You Fool No One' to give it any real merit. 'Exoristoi & The Book Of Sorrows' is another decent track but nothing too memorable.
All in all - it's not a bad album & many might appreciate it but it just doesn't do anything for me. Perhaps the band was attempting to appeal to the international market by trying to cover a variety of sounds but I find them uninteresting and non committed. It surprises me they've been around so long and haven't developed their own sound.
I'm far more impressed with Greece's Battleroar, Marauder (Especially the CD 'Life') Wolfcry & Elwing.
