Metal bands going bad.

I've discovered what it is, and why it happens. It is my firm beleif that bands such as Megadeth and Metallica stopped being FANS of the music they were creating. They listened to their initial influences, but stopped searching out more metal, new bands etc. They stopped following what was happening in the metal underground...

Imagine what megadeth could have become if Dave Mustaine had got into Nevermore, or Symphony X. Instead of doing pop rock ala Youthanasia, i could see them having done proggy thrash, like Politics of Ecstasy. POE has a very Megadeth flavour to both the rhythms and the soloing...

And what about metallica? What if they had gotten into Testament, Nevermore, Machine head? Instead of Pop Rock, i could see them doing pseudo-prog thrash, heavy music, ala Justice, but with choruses and memorable solos...

That's the thing i love about nevermore, despite my relative dissapointment with DeadHeartInaDeadWorld... Every photo i see of the boys, Jim is wearing a Dimmu Shirt, and in every interview, warrel mentions Arch Enemy or Cradle of Filth... They're still fans, and i think there is still hope for Enemies of Reality... it could turn out to be a totally killer record :headbang:

Stay fans, boys... not fanboys...!

Well, the same as for Nevermore goes for Chuck...
The guys from Nevermore are really cool people -
When they played at Bang Your Head Festival 2002, they did a really cool gig and towards the end they covered Ride the Lightning :) and Warrel helped about 20 people getting on stage :)

and Warrel loves Satan, I've been told... on the last tour here they and Dimmu were having such great time that it wasn't even funny.... said the man. :D
umm, and what you said. :Smug: the hope, that is...

I thought Warrel was against religion, so why would he love Satan? That would profess a belief in God as well, which it seems he does not have (based on his lyrics).

ha ha yeah, i love it when metalhead dudes totally contradict themselves, it's hilarious!!

Day one: "We don't beleive in a religion, make your own"

Day two: "SAAAATTTTAAAAANNNN!!!!"

ha ha :lol:

Not Satan as in the infernal deity, Bob Satan. He lives in WA, owns a porn shop. Cool guy and metal head. And he gives away free midget porn. Mr Bob Satan, supporting the scene in his own way.

that's only what he said in a Dimmu concert.... and fell into the pot with some plant (or took a seat). :D video-tape proves it. :D the man was only having a nice time.... (and couldn't exactly get up.... :D ) my idol...

Trapped, I have read this board for almost 2 years and never bothered to post. Until now;

I have long had the theory that you stated in my head. It seems that once a band is making its own music, it stops listening to anything that comes out after it starts making albums. They start listening to what's making money, not what's making music, and it shines through on their albums. Megadeth, if it wasn't put out of commission, would never make another really good album unless Dave started listening to some REAL metal that is relevent TODAY. Wanna know why Iced Earth is coming up with nonsense like "Red Badge of Courage" and "Flight Of The Eagle"? Because Jon won't listen to anything that's not older than his band. Know why God Hates Us All is horrendous (besides the fact that Kerry King plays on it)? Because they don't LISTEN to what's "extreme" in metal these days; they listen to the image-oriented crap that's making money these days, and they want their cut of it. I don't even want to get started on In Flakes. I didn't like the latest Dream Theater at all; and reading what CDs they used as influences, I'm not surprised at the end result.

There are bands, on the other hand, that kept listening to the new branches of metal that were created even after they started making albums of their own. Death, obviously, but of course, fate hates metal and so took Chuck away from this world way too early. Manilla Road comes to mind. Nevermore obviously, even though Dead Heart dropped a few levels, I'm still holding onto hope for Enemies because I know the guys listen to new, real metal too. Have you heard about Maiden wanting to take Sum 41 on tour with them next year? I dread to hear the new Maiden album! I'm pretty sure Morbid Angel like to listen to newer death bands. When I spoke with Eric Rutan last month, he was telling me about some newer death metal bands he likes, and you know what? That's why Hate Eternal isn't some rip-off or boring death band. Metal bands need to feed off each other so they don't go stale or sell out. I know my examples are obvious, but I had to post this because now I know I'm not the only one who thinks this. I'm no musician, so it's good to know that a musician feels this way too. Email me with any thoughts, anyone. This board won't let me register because of my email domain;
