Metal bands going bad.
I've discovered what it is, and why it happens. It is my firm beleif that bands such as Megadeth and Metallica stopped being FANS of the music they were creating. They listened to their initial influences, but stopped searching out more metal, new bands etc. They stopped following what was happening in the metal underground...
Imagine what megadeth could have become if Dave Mustaine had got into Nevermore, or Symphony X. Instead of doing pop rock ala Youthanasia, i could see them having done proggy thrash, like Politics of Ecstasy. POE has a very Megadeth flavour to both the rhythms and the soloing...
And what about metallica? What if they had gotten into Testament, Nevermore, Machine head? Instead of Pop Rock, i could see them doing pseudo-prog thrash, heavy music, ala Justice, but with choruses and memorable solos...
That's the thing i love about nevermore, despite my relative dissapointment with DeadHeartInaDeadWorld... Every photo i see of the boys, Jim is wearing a Dimmu Shirt, and in every interview, warrel mentions Arch Enemy or Cradle of Filth... They're still fans, and i think there is still hope for Enemies of Reality... it could turn out to be a totally killer record
Stay fans, boys... not fanboys...!
