What do you guys do with the "room mic"?

Like what process's do you use on this channel? Reverb? compression? EQ? maybe nothing?

Just want to get some ideas to try out, first time ive ever had a room mic available.

I use superior but this applies here too.

what i like to do is compress the shit outta the room mic and mix it in low.

Make a drum bus and run some Perfect Space with the Noistvault live room on the WHOLE KIT about -10wet or something,... Just to give a higher quality vibe to the drums.

Sweet, ill have a bash at that! Ive been trying EQ'ing it....taking the high end off it because more hi hats come through that then the bloody hi hat channel itself! haha, its made the hats a lot less obv in the room mic...not sure if thats a good thing to be doing...

Just tried it, wow the subgroup bus really makes the drums stand out a shit load, so much infact ive just turned it down to around -4. I thought the drums stood out a lot before, now the difference is pretty insane. Its because its basically playing itself on top of itself isnt it?

The reverb isnt very noticeable, which is a good thing. I keep getting drop outs due to the CPU cocking up mind. Cant run many plugins for some reason :erk: Bastard comp! :P

Hawd up. Did you make Sends or actually route the audio to the bus?

If you did the former, then yeah, it is the drums playing ontop of themself and in which case, awesome trick is compress the shit out of the subgroup (if sends) and then blend it in for more punch without being over compressed.

IF!
However, you actually routed the audio, then no, it shouldn't do that.

I put the PS on the subgroup bus then enabled it on each of my drum tracks. Then lowered the subgroup busses fader down a tad since it was dominating a bit. Its due to the fact ive only got 2 guitars layed down on this song so far, so I have to back off on drums until I get my new amp and lay another 2 tracks down and some bass :)

I think ive done it right....havent I? lol. As I said its the first time ive had to sort out room mic/mix comp/subgroup busses...

Hahahaha, im sorting it now, btw you seen the new update on the cakewalk site? Sonar 6.2! Tons of fixes and a few new bits and bobs. Have a gander!

Ooooof you rebel you! haha, ive done the routing thing. Now Im getting used to having the buss master as basically the DRUMS and the normal master being the GUITARS and what not. Adds a slight sparkle :) Do you have a PSP vintage warmer on your master and your drum master?

Nope, what i'll do is on my drum bus, stick a limiter on, usually Kjaerhus MPL or even Marquis Compressor on SSL Punch just to give a bit more baws and tame the snare.

On occassion, i have been known to blend in an exciter under the drums too.

Very interesting. Ive got a PSP on my master for guitars, it just blasts everything, im guessing turning the output down and the drive up slightly gives more of the tone of the actual VST.

Ill bash on the SSL Punch on see how it sounds.

Im still trying to find out what a GOOD snare should sound like...one minute I think yeah nice one its fat and sounds good....yet I want more crack! So I fiddle...now its like, jesus its like a shotgun crack...maybe it needs more fatness?!?!!? *Goes crazy and eats whole easter egg....*.......*becomes fat*

I might just cut a section of drums and whack it on here see what you guys think with your amazing monitors and ears! :P lol
