' Faith No More has always stood out as some sort of unique beast; part dog, part cat--its music almost as schizophrenic as the personalities of its members. When it all worked, it worked really well, even if the chemistry was always volatile. Throughout our 17years of existence, the mental and physical energy required to sustain this creature was considerable and relentless. Though amicable enough, when we finally split, we all followed paths seemingly destined to opposite ends of the universe.

Yet during the entire 10 years that have passed since our decision to break up we've experienced constant rumors and requests from fans and promoters alike. Nevertheless, for whatever reason, none of us kept in regular touch, much less to discuss any possibilities of getting together.

What's changed is that this year, for the first time, we've all decided to sit down together and talk about it. And what we've discovered is that time has afforded us enough distance to look back on our years together through a clearer lens and made us realize that through all the hard work, the music still sounds good, and we are beginning to appreciate the fact that we might have actually done something right.

Meanwhile we find ourselves at a moment in time with zero label obligations, still young and strong enough to deliver a kickass set, with enthusiasm to not only revisit our past but possibly add something to the present. And so with this we've decided to hold our collective breaths and jump off this cliff....
BACK, GOD FORBID, INTO THE MONKEY CAGE!!!

We can only hope that the experience of playing together again will yield results erratic and unpredictable enough to live up to the legacy of FNM.
Who know where this will end or what it will bring up...only the future knows. But we are about to find out!

FAITH NO MORE are:
Mike Bordin, Roddy Bottum, Bill Gould, Jon Hudson and Mike Patton '

but this seems genuine, though supposedly the original guitarist, Jim Martin, is refusing to be involved with them again.
pity because he did rock a lot.

and I will always remember how volatile they were during Triple J's old Live at the Wireless show, when during their cover of War Pigs, Mike Patton said to Mike "Puffy" Bordin "come on Puffy!" during the solo and Puffy walked out, leaving everyone confused. Mike then jumped on the drums to complete the song.

That's a long time between official releases :p

I'm not at all disappointed about Jim Martin's absence. Did you ever hear his "Milk and Blood" solo effort? What a steaming pile of shit... It's not like anything he did in Faith No More was of any particular merit either. Obviously the vocals played a big part in the sound but I think the drum and bass was what defined them musically and the guitar was usually little more than an afterthought and just enough to fit in around everything else that was happening. In the rare instances where I really like the guitar work in a song as a stand-out highlight - like in "Evidence" - it's not even him playing anyway.

I'm just rapt they're back. Even if it's just Europe for now, it's a great start.

I'd never read Mike say he'd even think of reforming FNM, but then I've only read some of his interviews.

It won't top 2008 for old school release value with AC/DC, Guns N Roses and Metallica.
Surely that's as perfect trifecta as one will ever see these days.

On the topic of "old school" alternative bands with cult followings which I never really "got", fuck Nine Inch Nails are shit.
Really REALLY shit.
I just had to get that out there.

I'm really hoping FNM hit the Euro festival circuit so that I catch them while over there this year. Never seen them live, would be awesome.

Jim Martin isn't refusing to be a part of it, he wanted to be a part of it but wasn't invited. Poor guy.

I heard that live at the wireless as well.

Shame about ol' Jim. I was always a fan of his. Both his playing and his style!

Did you go to Soundwave or something, Ferret? :)

On another note, Alice in Chains were fucking awesome on Thursday night. Awesome.

It would be a pretty good way for Wacken to celebrate a milestone year :loco:

Did you go to Soundwave or something, Ferret?

No :p I had "The Perfect Drug" on some random compilation back in high school which I didn't mind and I enjoyed the soundtracks Reznor did for the Quake series so I decided to finally check out a few Nine Inch Nails albums and see what all the hurrah over their Soundwave appearance was about. Most of the albums just sound like he's bought a new Casio keyboard and is trying to turn his favourite built-in drum beats into 'songs'. I was at least expecting something with more... life? Energy? Anything redeeming qualities at all? :erk:
