The Coop thread made me wonder..who are everyones favorite artists, if you have any? Perhaps if you could include a sample of their work as well as their name (as established in the Coop thread, I'm lousy with artist names, but often recognize their work) so everyone will know who it is you mean..

Here are a couple of mine:

Hajime Sorayama

Jonathon Earl Bowser

Patrick Nagel

Right on, Another cool post :) Ilike these artists:

Stephanie Pui-Mun
Luis Royo
Hajime Sorayama for sure ;)
Noah
Daniel Long
Travis Smith
And a score of Comic book artists ranging from Jim Lee to Mark Silvestry. :D

Luis Royo: http://www.luisroyo.com/labeII.jpg
Frank Frazetta: http://www.frankfrazetta.com/ff/features/rare_art/dec_01/lying.jpg
(uh, the above two samples are abominably small but free scans of famous artists' works are kind of hard to come by with a 5 second google search ;-) )

.. we're not limited to painters, are we?

David Doubilet: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/photography/doubilet/images/103184ap.jpg
Jussi Laine: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/gal...red_Photographers/Jussi_Laine/2_Ways_of_Sorts
(sorry, the cvnts at dropzone.com try to prevent linking to their images directly and it's too much of a bother to pull the link from the source)

... and speaking of comic book artistis:

Alex Ross: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1563893304.01.LZZZZZZZ.gif
(probably the best graphic novel I've read this year, by the way)
Frank Miller (too tired to dig up a sample :) )
Michael Zulli: http://www.sandman.tv/Collections/Katrina/Zulli.jpg
(Frack if he isn't the greatest sandman illustrator of all time. The Wake blew me away.)

Isnt Julie bell married to Boris Vallejo? I could've swore:confused: Oh well I could be wrong i guess:D

I'm not that much into paintings and stuff, but I think the Danish painter Thomas Kluge is really, really great! His painting of the Danish queen is simply amazing! Probably the greatest painting I've ever seen! I wasn't able to find any of his painting on the internet, so I can't post some pics here. It's not weird and surrealistic like most other painting are today. It's painted exactly like it looks and maybe that's what I think is so great about him. I can't say "Hey, that looks great" about some painting where a persons face is just smacked on with his nose on his cheek and the eyes in his forehead. I'm amazed that Thomas Kluge can paint something so life-like!

Neither can I..I just don't see the appeal of totally weird abstract stuff like that.. *shrug*

yes boris vallejo is a great artist, but his motives....*sigh*
big-breasted women in tiny armours and bare-brested women lying on stuff etc. i think it's wasted talent making half-porographic fantasyart.
i wish he could make some "good" (imo :)) pictures without those
naked women. give me a battle-ready barbarian with a zweihander or a well armoured sper-maid :D
now that's what i'd like! :)

I too really enjoy Royo's works, but my favorite artist by far is a Norwegian airtist by the name of Theodor Kittelsen.
During his life he painted lots of paintings based on the norse culture and the Norwegian history.
His most famous painting is probably "Nøkken" ("The water spirit" in english).

beeings, as well as ordinary things such as people :)

-Sjøtrollet (the Sea Troll)

-Draugen (the Sea ghost)

Kittelsen was also inspired by the great plauge that came to Norway in 1349, the Black Death, and painted quite a few paintings inspired by the plague.
