Dave Lombardo - simply rulez - he's the leader bar none - just listen to phenom fill on Ghosts of War
Sean Reinert - Cynic ruled - totally transformed the sound of Death on Human
Neil Peart - no explanation required here - very talented
Gene Hoglan - very good - he is also HUGE - I like the Toy Drumset someone else mentioned - saw him w Dark Angel - very good indeed

I'll mention some drummers that have made me stop and go "OMFG"

-Proscriptor (Absu) - My favorite drummer, and I believe him to be the best ever.

-Asgeir Mickelson (Borknagar etc) - A fucking master of the drums, listen to Epic or any of the newer Vintersorg releases, this guy is simply incredible. The world will be lucky if they see someone with this much talent again.

-Negru (Negura Bunget) - What else needs to be said?

-Horgh (Immortal, Hypocrisy) - A really fast and tactical drummer. He's done some interesting things and deserves our respect.

-Marko Tarvonen (Moonsorrow) - A tragically under-looked drummer. The work he did on Verisaekeet is simply great, and he knows exactly what to play and when!

I'm a big fan of Dale Crover from the Melvins. He may not be the most technical but his drumming's got so much character and orignality.

plenty of people here i won't repeat gene hoglan, neal peart etc

but for oddness of playing bill ward should be up there, no one ever covers a sabbath song and gets near the drumming

also Ian Paice, really fluid and powerful
fantastic player

I see carl palmer in big letters up there, deservidly too
fucking immense drummer

honorable mentions - the guy on the first brutal truth album and the guy from nuerosis

He is from astrofaes and a few others not hate forest, the two other guys from Drudkh Roman Saenko and Thurios are from hate forest though.

my previous ones are still there, but I'd add Thomas Lejon from Andromeda. That guy knows his way around the kit. And Jeff Eber of Dysrhythmia. I always liked him, but didn't consider him uber-elite until I saw them live a few weeks ago. Man he plays his ass off.
