ok. Universal, not only-PC or only-Console based. Here are my favourites:

FPS:
Half-Life (All. Well, being the epitome of FPS alongside Doom & Quake...)
Counter-Strike (All)
Battlefield (Only til 2, i dislike 2142)
Far Cry (And no doubt Crysis also!)

Adventure:
Mafia
Tenchu (All)
Hitman (All)
Max Payne (All)
Dino Crisis (All)
The Godfather (something like Mafia, so i like it also)

Fighting:
Mortal Kombat (All, except a few releases like Armageddon because the story doesnt impress me n they always drift away frm the Canon of the storyline. Anyway, kudos to the game that prompted the existence of ESRB)
Virtua Fighter (All, i will get a PS3 once VF5 is released. The pioneer of 3D Fighters man. Did u know Tekken borrowed elements and ideas frm this game? )
Street Fighter EX (All)
Fighting Vipers (All. This one also borrowed ideas frm VF)
Dead or Alive (All, i just hope they release something for the PS3. I think i love the ladies more than the game)

Beat 'em Up/Adventure:

Beat Down (just played at a friend's place)

Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 for PC
Metroid Series, Prime is the best if a little easy though
Resident Evil 4, series plot lines are cool but I hated the gameplay too much on all the other ones
