It's so odd: during the early 90s "grunge explosion", I was really (still) only into metal & didn't pay much attention to Seattle. I did, however, really dig Alice in Chains.
As the years passed & the scene died, I actually "discovered" Seattle/grunge, around the year 2000.
And I must say, there was a lot of great music there. But, IMO, PEARL JAM, specifically, is the best, bar none. And, the odd thing, is that I actually prefer their '95+ music over the '91-94 era.
In my view, the songs "Present Tense" & "Red Mosquito" are among the best rock songs ever composed! Awesome band!
I cant wait for "Riot Act" (11/12 - same day as Opeth!).
Alice in Chains & SOundgarden are (were) fantastic as well!!
