Hi guys,

I've been browsing these forums for a few years now and I'm very grateful for all the tips and knowledge I've gained from it... but never posted anything I've recorded - I may as well start.

I feel like my mixes have been getting a lot better lately, at least to the point where I can post them and ask for feedback.

Recorded a cover of Moonshield by In Flames (one of my favorite songs), I'd like to know what you guys think of it.
Moonshield Cover

Guitar - LTD FX-400 (EMG81/60)->Engl e530->Recabinet
Bass - Ibanez SR505 -> MXR Bass DI+
Drums are just Superior with Metal Machine

I feel like the mix as a whole is okay, but something's not quite right with the guitars but I can't tell if it's just ear fatigue or whatnot?

Nice cover!

The problem you refer to with guitars is the mids and low end balance overall of the mix.

Most of the new stuff have a lot of low end, but... its easy to misinterpret this and end up with a boomy mix. Boost the lows correctly and deal with the mids hold it down with compression and you get there.

Some of the others on here may lead you there better than I can.

Great mix man!
Really dig those drums. To me guitars have too much content in the high mid register and it causes ear fatigue. Try some cuts around the presence region (2500 - 3000Hz) and see if that helps.While doing so, reference with commercial mixes to keep perspective. If you were to lay down vocals on this you would probably have hard time making them cut through those guitars.

Great playing btw, keep up the good work!
Cheers
