I am wireing a strat copy with p-90 pups. Simple question: Is shielding nessesary behind the pick guard (like a cavity plate on a gibson etc...)?

I love P-90's. They're becoming my favorite pickup for everything except metal.

Shield everything. In a proper environment it won't make much difference, but... you're a guitarist. You don't get proper environments. You're lucky when you have a gig where there are more heads than carcinogens between the walls - do you think anyone does the electrical work sober anywhere you're playing? Unless you've got power conditioners for your power conditioners and Nikola Tesla has wired your stage, wrap that guitar like you would your hairy banjo in a whore house in Bangladesh. You'll thank me.

I played a friends SG Jr. with the one p90 in it for about a year straight and loved it. He won't sell it to me though.
I'm thinking about getting some humbucker-sized p-90's for some of my guitars.

anywayz on my strat i just rewired the stock grounding and glued onto the entire back face of the pickguard tin foil. works pretty good for me. i did have problems before, that were probably due to cold connections though. i say shield it if not too bored

Thanks guys I ordered some either way it just seemed like good idea. I am going to be putting some more in on my other guitar because I am getting more noise through the guitar than the reamp box so....
