Hey guys, I was just wondering, how do you write songs? Do u jam until u come up with a cool riff/melody or do u just play what u already compose in your mind? Or some other approach? Also i wanted to know how long have u been playing the guitars/keyboards, are you self-taught or did you take lessons? Which instrument you prefer?

And lat but not least, congratulations for Spectral, it's a fucking awesome album, like 10000 times better than the first two. Really anxious to hear how the 4th album will sound like....

Thanks man!

I think both me and Andreas use a similiar technic when we write music. Some days we sit with the guitar and just jam. These times the result is usually riffs and not melodies. I personally think its much easier to write melodies when u already have a riff.
Other days i sit down with the keyb. and start there. Its a great compliment to the guitar, cause some days you just arent lucky with one instrument and then u just move over to the other one.
Andreas has taken lessons just like myself. Dunno for how long he has played the guitar, but i have been playing the guitar for over 10 years now. But i have not always taken it too serious. By that i dont mean that i have lost my interest now and then. But when you have many interests, like i do, u just dont have the time u wish u had to focus as much as u maybe should have done to become a greater guitarplayer. And even though i enjoy playing the guitar very much i think that songwriting is just as fun.
Andreas has also taken some piano lessons, but i just play keyb. for fun. We definately prefer the guitar :headbang:
Also, the thing u mentioned "or do u just play what u already compose in your mind?" . That happens sometimes. But again, to me its much easier to compose things this way, when u already have something to build on. Melodies, and other rhytm based things that are more progressive, often pop up in my head when i hear riffs.
i thinks that it.
