Good morning everyone.

I've been approached by a local band to produce their EP. I've never produced a metal album before so I'm feeling a bit lost here. One of the guitar players recommended I check out this site, hence my being here :Smokedev:

They are constantly muttering something about the guitar tone of a band called In Flames. Been listening to their album Reroute to Remain for the last couple of days trying to get my head around the production and music. I have to admit that I quite like the songs and the production.

We just spent some time recording a section of their first song trying to get the guitars to sit nicely in the mix. I'm a bit worried I may have eq'd this thing to death here. Here is a short clip of the song(the part before he screwed up )

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. It would seem that this is the proper way to end a post? :headbang: ?

It's sound pretty good thus far, but your drums are tiny and weak. I can barely hear any drums besides the snare. Bring them way up. Guitars sound like they need more pre-amp gain, and I can't seem to hear any bass track.

Bass guitar is a big part of the in flames sound (well all good guitar tones actually). The guitars sound pretty good, but you will for sure need some D.I. Bass (for low end clarity)and grindy bass (to help glue with the guitars) in there to seperate it all into their appropriate spots.

Thank you very much for your comments. I do agree with you, the drums do get lost in the mix somewhat. I'll just bring them up a bit. As for the bass, I recorded two bass tracks and panned them left and right. The tracks were clean though, because I was a bit weary of generating a muddy sound with distorted bass guitars. I'll reamp the bass tracks and put some distortion gain on there as well and see how that works out.

Once again, thank you for your kind comments and feedback. I'll repost the first full song as soon as it gets finished.
