First Event ASP8 mix - gimme your input!

Thanks guys. There's actually a new version uploading right now which will replace that file. A bit more automation and louder vox.

Dan, I honestly don't know what to do about that bass. I've pulled out every single trick I know and nothing is doing it... It's just simply played sloppy and out of time, and has some weird tonality to it that I just can't seem to fix with compression and EQ. If Mav was planning on getting this mastered I'd leave it to the ME, but at this stage, it's just gonna have to be weird. But I think it really shows how much the bass adds to a mix... this one just sounds so incomplete to me because the low-end isn't being held down properly. Still, it's an EP at the end of the day, and if they wanted to go a notch higher on the quality meter, they should've got me to record the thing, not just mix it...

 well put.

Mate, if you still have some reamping left in you, I've actually tracked a whole album's worth of guitars through a pretty darned good chain, and I could swing one or two tracks by you to see whether it helps at all in your quest for 'that tone'. This isn't to get you to reamp the whole album, but rather to have something else to experiment with, which isn't tracked on project studio gear.

The unfortunate thing is that the guitar was a Jackson with Duncan Design pups.... but at least it will be shown in high fidelity!

No rough mix sadly, I'm torn between mixing other stuff and still tracking this band, so there's no time. Raw drums and bass if you want though!

I'll probably edit everything up by Friday evening. So hopefully I can swing something your way either on the weekend or Monday.

I like the first mix better than the second. More shiny and those clicky kicks are just awesome.

Thanks guys.

@Kazrog: Nice to hear that! It strikes me as a little 'flat'. Like it could use a bit more 'hi-fi' hype, but I think that's mainly related to some inherent problems in the guitars and bass, which actually take away from the mix when carved away. So we'll see how we go... I'd love to getthis one over to Plec to finish it up.

@88mph: Oh really. I think I just wanted to get away from that sound a little. Sounded a little hollow to me, and I think the new mix is a bit warmer and fuller.

Of course, there's no right or wrong, just different taste:) (except when it comes to Death Magnetic...:))

I'd have loved that a few weeks back, man, but I have a deadline coming up to get this done and don't have the time to give the guitars another shot.

Having said that, the clean DIs are still up here:
