Hey everyone, first time poster here along with a self proclaimed sound/mixing/mastering noob.... anyway, over the past few weeks I have been diving into the world of producing and have finally gotten the opportunity to mix one of my friend's songs. Drums are done on EZdrummer, everything else is DI and all amps, cabs, compressors, reverbs, etc are freeware.

Ignore the sloppy playing and overall lack of a bridge, but what are all of your impressions? I learned a lot off of this sight and am curious to what all I can do to improve.

Thanks in advance
Alex

This is actually a very good mix. Awesome for a first time. The drums are just a bit lifeless is all. But hey, Superior Drummer tends to be that way.

Thanks all, not quite the response I was expecting.

MisSigsFan: I noticed the drums were lifeless also. sounds like they are done on a computer, any way around this when working with EZdrummer? I have no access to a kit that I could mike up for real so I'm stuck with the pop/rock kick that came stock with the program......

newbiemix: that sounds great to me (not that I have much experience to criticize). Personally I would raise the clean vocals on the chorus a tad but it's not even that big of a deal, you can still understand them. I might have to try doing a mix of some of the tracks on this sight, sounds like fun.

thanks alex ..will take note on your advice ..will play around with it .but this forum is awesome ..alot of good tips and tricks that we can learn from this forum .

I messed around with the song some more and attempted a little bit of "mastering".... anyway, this is what I came up with, I think I managed to add a little life to the drums and make the guitars sound bigger.

Again, playing sucks and song really isn't that creative, but I'm more worried about how it sounds at the moment. Any and all criticism welcome and appreciated
