This ain't bad. The guy knows how to write a melodic chorus that's for sure. The screams are kinda unnecessary, I think they're what put me off bands like Soilwork, that whole screaming over melodic chorus thing. But his delivery is great, the songs sound like they're in a nice vocal range for him, and there's some really good stuff on it, some nice flourishes amid the usual.

I happen to agree with you. The record didn't really stand out to me, but it wasn't horrible. When I first heard the harsh vocals I thought it was Randy Blythe. The choruses can be catchy but the lyrics are sub-par, and it matters more here more than other metal because ya know... you can understand what he's saying.

that doesn't happen every day does it? some poor lyrics, but he is a member of DT so.... still, a minor good news story amid the sad portnoy-the internet battle, which is demonstrating why every top artist should seriously beware trying to reason with his fans.
