Hey guys, just getting into mixing, could use some feedback. Biggest challenge I think I have is getting all the levels right after compression is added. Description

is in the links, but ill copy and paste:

First mix:

A test mix for the sneap forum. Guitars: Kemper profiling amp: 5153 inside, 5150 outside, 4 track, 100/100, 80/80. Leads area diezel herbert profile. Drums are metal machine: sonor artist snare. only mastering is ozone 5. SSL channels on the drums.

Second mix has more room reverb, tama bell brass snare: Guitars are all a Kemper profile of my Diezel Herbert, V30 loaded cabinet.

Thanks for any input on anything, I am a newb, go easy :)

These tracks were basically just a a one take type of thing, nothing really amazing, just some simple leads etc.'''=

The guitar sound is superb. nothing to criticize there from my side. But the mix is overall a bit unbalanced loudness wise. especially the first two. the kick really is to upfront. during the doublebass section it kills everything :D
I'm a bit tired at the moment so my ears could fool me but i would make the guitars louder. they get lost behind the drums.
What i don't like is the snare..it does not have any "smack" in my ears. but don't ask me how to do it better..i find snare tones really difficult to get right.

thank you guys for the criticism! I very much appreciate it! I tried mastering alittle lower this time, think it came out alittle better. I have a serious issue with bass tone, and tried to do the best I can with what I have on this track. Description is in souncloud, but I'll post it anyways.

First with bass on a new track I am working on. Kind of an exodus influenced type of track. Mastered alittle lower in volume this time. Kemper profiling amp : Diezel Herbert profile mesa v30 loaded recto OS 4x12, Gibson Les Paul studio with Bare knuckle aftermath in the bridge. bass is one of ola englunds bass profiles. 4 track, all panned 100/100. Metal Machine for drums, tama bell brass snare.

Guitar tones may be similar, but this is like I said a more thrashy influenced track, one step down. I could really use some pointers on bass here, however, given I dont even have a bass at the moment (this was a guitar transposed down via the kemper...I know, I know) this is probably the best I can do. Really going for that bass grind ala single coil P bass style (virtually every record that comes out of audiohammer studios is a P bass with single coils, just for reference of what I am into) grind. Thanks!

raise the guitars, on all examples the guitars are too low in the mix.
However i agree, the tones seems to sound nice, but it's also kinda hard to judge really cause you lack mixing experience.
Is there no one on the web that can mix professionally that is not Ola Englund with his so down tuned guitars you barely hear the notes the riffs are playing? haha.
I would like to hear some six string examples, being tuned down so low, your used to it sounding "digital" cause the Pod XT sorta set the standard for that "digital" sound. Like a standard Metallica song or Drop D, that would be nice to hear with the kemper, how it handles that tone definition!!!

You mean like Lasse Lammert, Ermin Hamidovic, James Stephenson, Glenn Fricker, etc? Yeah, there's noone apart from Ola...and if you can't hear what Ola is playing, you need new ears...

It's better now. The most instruments sound good on their own. But you have to "glue" them better together. For the overall volumebalancing mickrich started a nice thread called "pink noise" or something like that. Read about that what he is doing there if you didn't yet, it's a good starting point when setting up track levels, especially for us beginners..
Are these mixes songs from your band? How is it called? :)

Guitar tone is amazing, I wonder what maybe a recto would be like down the middle with the 4 peaveys, just for layering where needed?

Kick volume, I like it, I like a slightly too loud kick especially if slate of metalmachine since they are fab.

Thanks guys! I really would like continued input on my mixes and opinions on everything, I really appreciate it. Here is an updated mix of the same track. Lots of things were changed, however guitar stayed the same, except I added a Waves deesser to get rid of some harsh frequenices and to make it sit better in the mix. Bass is a sonic underground SVT profile. Hope you guys like it. Volume is alittle low, not really sure why, ill have to go back and look.

And here is 2 mixes of another track I am working on, this is for the guy who wanted something not so downtuned :) This is an exodus inspired track I am working on, I think you guys will dig it! Guitars are all my Deizel Herbert profile, same bass profile as well. first one here has less high end on the entire mix.

This one is just a tad brighter...

again, feedback definitely welcomed :)

also these were MP3's uploaded, Not the actual WAV files, as I dont not have access to them right this second. They sound generally fine to me, not sure how the conversion works with soundcloud etc, and how much of a difference it would make anyways
