This is an interesting question I just thought up! What's the earliest rock/metal song you can think of with double kicking? :)

I have no idea!!! I've seen clips of The Who and Led Zeppelin using 2 bass drums but not actually doing double kicks...

And on the opposite spectrum Kiss - Detroit Rock City (1976) is the earliest I can think of with a double kick sound even though its only a few triplets scattered around, but he is only actually single kicking, so I don't know.

Alot of old bands cheated by using those multi-kick one kick pedals, like van halen. so it'd be heard to find out if they were using them,or actual double kick. I would probably say it would be an early death band like Obituary or someone.

It was the Beatles on the song Satan Be My Lover Boy.

If I'm completely wrong on that one, I'd guess that maybe Death could have been the first ones.

Yeah,Alot of Death Metal bands were going before metallica.i would even say slayer used double kick before metallica,it's hard, cos of the whole multikick pedal shit.

Nah you're right jazz people were the first to do it...

I was just wondering who the first rock/metal bands would have been to pick up on it hehe.

Good subject Trooper, l recall the first drum kick song was a cover of YOU KEEP ME HANGIN ON by Vanilla Fudge in 67'-68 Carmmine Appice was the drummer, who later went on to work with Jeff beck, rod stewart, ozzy, Ted Nugent blue murder ..etc..

keep rockin

Keith Moon.

No doubt about it. He first commercialised it.

Although, the Sweet drummer was a good flam player with a single kick, then moving onto double.
