I got my shitty home studio set up a week and a half ago, and after many hours of intense headaches I was able to finish my first track.

It is somewhat lame, but I hope I get better with experience.

Everything recorded/programmed/mixed by me:

Drums: Superior

Bass: Dingwal Combustion with one year old strings (boiled before recording session, still sounded muffled)

Guitar: Ibanez RG7321, all stock, strings are the ones the previous owner had put, so very old as well

Synth: Synth1

Electric Piano: Lounge Lizard

Any feedback is welcome!

EDIT: Added soundcloud link

Yeah, it's somewhat overpowering but that was somewhat my intention. Bass is my main instrument, I started playing it because I just love how a bass sounds.
It sounds a little muddy, so I still need to pratice being able to find the balance where it cuts through agressively but isn't as muddy.

I think the main thing for the bass tone really is a good bass and technique. It's all played fingerstyle, no pick, but I still get that "clankiness" because of the way I attack the strings.
I just recorded it through my audio interface then I ran filters on a EQ, a compressor on a medium-hard setting, TSE BOD, Ampeg SVX and SSL EQ. It has a slight boost around 120Hz and generous boosts on the midrange, around 500Hz, 1.25Hz and a little on 2.5Hz.
