Actually, sort of both.

The Valkyries carried great warriors from the battlefield off to Valhalla wear they served them mead in the great hall. So the "flew" in the sense that they traveled quickly ... weather or not they actually flew through their air on wings I will leave up to debate as I am no expert on Norse mythology, however here are a few online resources you may find interesting.
