hi guys, I have an issue with my floyd rose, I feel it's too tight and it's hard to handle, I have a Jackson patented Floyd Rose.

do you have any tips to loose it up a bit?, I know you will say Jackson brigdes sucks, but it works for me :D

BTW, I'm tuned in B with .10-.60 strings

thanks

The tightness of the bridge is a direct result of the string gauge and spring tension. If you want a looser bridge, you need to find a different balance of the two. Lighter strings / less spring tension = looser bridge.

I actually just switched my Jt580lp for an OFR like 2 hours ago

Tips:

Buy some OFR springs as these are better quality and more "spirngy".

I learned a fuckign amazing tip for floyds when speaking with Laiho's guitar tech in 2002-03.

Set 2 springs next to each other under the top stirngs and one diagonally from the outer most point on the bridge (under 6th string) to one claw in on the clamp.
in direction of:

e B G D A E

Clamp
------------
-1-2-3-4-5-
..I..I......\
..I..I.......\
..I..I........\
-1-2-3-4-5-
------------
Bridge Tailpiece

This gives a more balanced feel and makes it 2000x smoother.

Nice pearl of wisdom! :)

I have to check it out gavin
Usually I set it this way, as most of the people do it:

Clamp
------------
-1-2-3-4-5-
.../...I...\.
./.....I.....\
/......I......\
-1-2-3-4-5-
------------
Bridge Tailpiece

from pos 1 on the tailpiece to pos 2 on the clamp
from pos 3 on the tailpiece to pos 3 on the clamp
from pos 5 on the tailpiece to pos 4 on the clamp

See, there is logic in that tech's way though.

E-B-G strings are thin and don't produce much of the "tension".

Whereas the D-A-E strings produce a lot, especially with heavier guage strings.

The balance in tension with 2 springs under the lighter strings and a diagonal one covering most of the required leverage from the higher guage strings results in a floyd that "glides in liquid smoooth" (if anyone has seen darkplace, they'll get that )

Honestly guys, try it, especially on licensed floyds, makes all the difference!

thanks for all the info, it's really helpful, Gavin you are the man!!!, hehehe

one question:

I have low gauge on 1st to 3rd strings and high gauge on 4th to 6th, does it work anyway?
