Former Sabaton members form a band called... CIVIL WAR

[CIVIL WAR was just] a good name that sounded good.
Uh huh...

I'm curious to see what they come up with, but after seeing the new Sabaton on Wednesday in Hollywood, I have no doubts that they're not only fine after the split, but I felt they were even tighter than the old lineup.

"[CIVIL WAR was just] a good name that sounded good."

No. No it doesn't. It sounds awful. Especially considering the group you left to reform this new group, and all your talk about "so much creativity". It sounds like you're trying to become Sabaton 1.5

There have been rumors that we did not want to continue playing together anymore but that is simply not the case," said Mullback. There are also many people who believe that we are not playing on the new SABATON album, ['Carolus Rex'], that it's the new band that recorded the tracks. But that's not true either. It is us.

So I wonder what really happened between Par, Joakim and the band members who left?

My guess is that the band members wanted more creative input.
Maybe, strange that they waited until this point in their career though...six albums released and they're on an upward slope in terms of popularity. And all four of them at once, over creative control? Not saying you're wrong, as it's a plausible explanation. I also wonder if heavy touring had something to do with it, but for all we know it could be a personality conflict or contract/compensation issue.

In some ways, I'd rather not know since it doesn't seem to have been entirely amicable...nothing positive comes from bands rehashing their drama in public.

Interesting... Anthing with Nils is a blind buy for me anyway.

+1

I've been really getting into Astral Doors and Lion's Share more lately...I only knew of his work in Wuthering Heights until Astral Doors was announced for PPUSA that one year. It was unfortunate they couldn't commit to the fest, but regardless I can thank the fest for introducing me.

I look forward to hearing the 'Civil War' debut in how it compares and contrasts to Sabaton....hopefully it will be better than Carolus Rex because I wasn't too thrilled on my first spin.

Carolus Rex is quite a bit better than Coat of Arms IMO, definitely shows the band back on an uptick. But, that's going to derail the thread.

As little as I'm in love with the name and hope they change it, I am looking forward to the music they put out. And I agree with Pure, I don't care why the split happened, overall.

I'll reserve judgment till I hear it. If they try to ape Sabaton, I'll bet they'll just sound like shit. Songwriting is such a huge key to a successful song/album, and since Joakim and Par did just about everything in Sabaton, I'm guessing that these other guys will go in a fairly different direction. After seeing Sabaton live last month, I have no doubt they have a bright future, we'll have to see how this project turns out.
