Frantic Bleep reviews

If you're not qualified to review an album, this is the way to review it:

I feel pretty uncomfortable with this one, being convinced I'm dealing with a masterpiece, but unable to appreciate it enough. FRANTIC BLEEP can be labelled as Avant-garde Metal with Jazz and classical influences. Songs are very atmospheric, melodic and weird, sounding like a concept album or a movie soundtrack. Very hard to describe cos songs have different patterns shifting very often from a genre to another while keeping a lot of cohesion.
« The Sense Apparatus » is a very original album and cool to listen to (if you're not exclusively into brutal stuff), but I'm not specialized enough to review it properly.

Kick ass review from Metal Perspective:

Frantic Bleep is a new band from Norway and "The Sense Apparatus" is their debut CD. Prior to this they had only the demo-CD "Fluctuadmission", which lead them to signing a contract with the U.S. based The End Record (another good signing for T.E.R.).

I found this band when I followed the traces of Paul Mozart Bjørke (vocals, bass), who is member of Madder Mortem (this is another chapter that we will open in a few months, when their new album will be released). I didn't know what to expect. I mean I knew that this was about some kind of progressive music, but I could know exactly what. Even now, after numerous listening sessions, I still can't comprehend the width and depth of their music. It is very difficult listening, which claims for your ultimate concentration. I cannot resemble their music to some other's band and I consider that they are unique in the way Cynic or Psychotic Waltz were for their age. To me, this is one of the best debuts ever. A very mature record, which is so complex that none description will be enough to cover its multi-dimensional nature. Their music is very passionate and intense. Do not expect something ordinary or some technocratic band that performs clinically their compositions. "The Sense Apparatus" is a dramatic exposition of soul and mind, thanks to Paul Mozart Bjørke's vocal lines, his countless transitions among various modes (low tuned, somber, angered etc) and the adventurous compositions of Patrick Scantlebury (guitars, synth). I cannot distinguish any song, simply because each one of them is so different from the rest. Aggressive thrashy riffs are shifting with piano melodies and then to swirling riffs that every prog-metal metal band would jealous. Patrick Scantlebury is also responsible for the production and despite his young age it seems that he knows better than anyone how the music of his band should sound. The whole package is appealing from the very first moment thanks to the astounding artwork of Christian Ruud. Another meaningful
credit (especially for those who are aware of this divine voice) is that Agnete M. Kirkevaag from Madder Mortem is contributing with some background vocals.

As a conclusion I would like to note that, even in metal, the industry of clones prevails (be it NWOSDM, be it Power Metal, be it Black it's all the same). But we still have some alternatives. I suggest strongly Frantic Bleep to all those who are uneasy and worried, who seek for something qualitative.

Review from Vampire Magazine:

Damn, a reviewer's life is hard from time to time. From Norway - With questions. I'm still not out of it, Frantic Bleep debut album just isn't a heaven's send. Swell unpredictable musicianship leading to indescribable scenes is what "The sense apparatus" is all about. I can easily say the nine songs on the silver disc are of an extremely high avant-gardish and experimental level, right away.

Forget all you've heard before, and open your mind for new sonic waves. I can't get up with any other similar sounding bands, although a lot of the newer Enslaved influences pass the revue. Perhaps a Slipknot alike riff raid The expulsion or some Cynic hints blink during "Nebolous Termini". But the major mark of Frantic Bleep are their weird song structures and always apart sounding riffs. Don't think of high technically sweeps and shredding solo's. No, Frantic Bleep invades the world with its psychedelic and hallucinating tunes. I must have heard The sense apparatus for like ten times now, I just can't remember anything and I keep discovering new highlights. It's not easy listening at all, but you just can't stop listening it. It must be the dragging melodies or Paul Mozart Bjørke's (what's in the name?) wailing vocals taking me into higher spheres. During the mind tripping Mausolos the man reaches his most hallucinating limits. Only a few songs like Mandaughter are leaded by some hellish screams, the rest is almost one hundred percent clean. Though I?m sure this album will reach a lot of open minded black metalheads for sure.

The sense apparatus is always quite calm, waiting to take you over very slowly. Elitist Records have signed another original act. A tour with Lunaris would be great now. Though I'm not really sure a lot of people understand this uneasy music. I do like it for its apartness, though I don't like some parts for its apartness either. Seldom band, Seldom music.

Great Spanish review:

http://www.rockcircus.net/discos/internacionalD3-04.html#i895

8/10

We actually got reviewed in tha last Revolver Magazine:

FRANTIC BLEEP (THE END)
This Norwiegan trio's ridiculous moniker is easily overshadowed by the forward-thinking brilliance of its music. Their sophomore full-length is a fluidly propulsive mix of searing riffage, diverse vocals and dynamic experimentation worthy of Ephel Duath, Arcturus or even Opeth.

By Brandon Geist

Same old same old.... :Smug:

Do you think the skater boys who buy this mag have ever heard of Ephel Duath or Arcturus? They should've compared us to Limp Bizkit or Korn instead.

The most negative and bitter piece of crap ever:

http://www.getmetal.com/article/articleview/626/1/4/

It's in swedish(of course)

I didn't understand a word of most of it but he mentions The Kovenant for some reason, which is more than enough motive for me to slap him in the face with my hairy balls.

That's the problem with the Internet. Any Chimpanzee with three Metallica albums on which to base his "expertise" can build a site and their inane stupidity is beamed around the world for all to see...

This reminds me of "ephel duath are ripping off limbonic art!" :yell::tickled:

He basically says that the music is boring crap and a Bar Mitzvah is more exciting, and our music should be played at one...or something, and it's too varied and we're this and that... and the vocals sound like the Kovenant and blablabla. I dont pay any attention to crap reviews anyways. How can anything be too varied and boring at the same time?

I am very surprised that labels are sending out promos to many crappy websites.

Cool german one from www.medazzarock.com

Frantic bleep is yet another brilliant band from Norway. The trio combines sounds of Voivod with chaotic Prog-elements and melancholic acoustic parts that remind of Anathema or Opeth. Their record "The Sense Apparatur" is quite complex and requires several "hearings" before one grasps the whole context. But once this is achieved you won?t want to give this CD away again. Starting with a spheric relaxed intro (A SURVEY). The whole album is enormous and almost impossible to describe in words. So very facetted is the songwriting . Incredible what the boys from Frantic Bleep manage to get into a 6 minute song, it?s so crazy!!! One could also say that whoever gets over the first hurdle to grasp the context of this album and even likes it has to be a little bit crazy. Those who are open for everything new, they?ll love this album. For people who prefer "easier" music better leave this CD alone, or they?ll burn their ears trying to listen to it! Very original! Therefore 9.5 crazy points!! (Pink)
