Searched for a Genesis thread but didn't find one. I've been meaning to sit down and listen to some Genesis for a long, long time. Where should I start?

we're busy going gaga for genesis in the prog rock thread

*expected a Sega Genesis thread from acie*

Selling England by the Pound

Yeah, I am not too crazy about them, judging mostly by Foxtrot (which I bought an old vinyl of a while ago) and Selling England By the Pound which I downloaded a short while ago.

I can't put my finger on it exactly, but I still say even in their prime they sounded too commercial or something.

I need to purchase an album or two from these limp wristed wankers. This performance is grandiose!
Posted here once, here it comes again!

This stuff is amazing in its own right. I can't say that I'm going to be able to get into entirely though. I'm going to listen through a chunk of their stuff before I make up my mind though. So far I've got Selling England by the Pound and I don't quite know what to think.

that guy looks about 83% like a woman

edit: hahaha pelvic thrusts

"That guy"? Dude, just die. (I don't mean that  )

Probably about my third favorite band of all time (70s era). And I'm pretty sure everyone remembers my fanboyism about five years ago (I'm SURE I started a Genesis thread long ago...). Back when every other sentence wasn't parenthetical (like now).

I will say, even though I'm not a huge Genesis fan it turns out. I love Phil Collins solo stuff. I don't care what you say (pun obviously intended)! Poppy or not, I love it.

*edit*

Turns out I like the pop-filled Genesis as well. I've forgotten how many songs I'm familiar with.

I told Acie to listen to Dodo-Lurker off Abacab because it's gaymazing and sorta in the middle between excessive prog cheese and popwhatnots

This shit is great. Old Genesis tracks played by two piano virtuosos.

this is definitely awesome. brings back some great feelings of teenage-type innocence before realizing the horrific realities of adult life. i remember being about 15... i was having an AIM conversation with you, and you sent over musical box and hogweed. hooked ever since. some of the best music ever created. :notworthy

sort of off-topic: today, i listened to 'red' for the first time in a while. i used to listen to this album on a daily basis, but its been a while. holy fuck what an amazing slice of music. i mean, damn. the ending of starless is possibly one of the greatest soundgasms evarrr
