Get this bass tone without a real bass?

Cheap does not always equal suck... There are plenty of cheap ESP and Ibanez basses that do not suck.

So you're saying a pack of Pro Steels for every 2-3 tracks + 2 EMG DC 40's would make a guitar cheap?

Thanks for the availability of cheap gear, multi-fx processors, Guitar Pro and cracked software everyone's a rigged-up musician/sound engineer ;)

I'm very cynical towards bassists in general. Sorry.

Global Warming gives huge amount of profits to string manufacturers! Yes!

Please quote the last line, whoever loves me. Thank you.

All I said is that cheap does not always equal suck and that is a true fact. Based on the budget he has he will be able to get a "cheap" bass that will serve him well. I didn't say anything about a pack of pro steels for every other track... or cracked software. There is affordable gear out there that doesn't suck and isn't cracked.

my budget is now 400-500, 600 max. so i can go for something a little more expensive/better. i'm hoping to find a BTB if possible around my area, or anything that's just as good, maybe with bartolini pick ups.

What's wrong with broomstick bass (with shitloads of midi automation) and free TS' Secret (tube screamer) plugin with a few impulses loaded into LeCab2?

Ermz: Hell yeh, that's a really nice bass. Played one the other day, developed a GAS but it'd fuck up my budget because I'm DIY'ing a power conditioner :(

Cort Curbow?

Okay, every shitty bass would sound gold in his hands :D

I'd hire a bass player temporarily, you'd never get that tone being new at bass trying to finger pick like that, nor would you get that tone with a pick.

this is a real bass guitar so it comes with buying with a real one and using real bass signals
a VST cannot replace the original.

not to jack butt I think its relevant
I bought a cheap bass myself, squire j bass
Iv had it for about 6 months now and constantly struggle to get a good sound with it
I actually have a friends ltd bass with active pickups in the right now which takes about 10 minutes to get a killer sound out of it
My question is would better pick ups make a difference or is the thing really just a piece of shit?

Sorry to hear that man. That is exactly why I wasn't sure if I should get a cheap bass. You buy a cheap guitar, it will still be a descent guitar. But if you buy a cheap bass..(not trying to bash)

Better pickups will make a difference. But if you want actives then you will have to find a place for the battery...
