anyone playing one here?

Which one? what's your take on it? what pickups do you use?

...I was in El Paso three days ago, and ever since they opened Guitar Center (2007) they have had that same explorer and it won't sell. It has a few light dings on the headstock and scratches from people hanging it wrong, and the case is pretty beat up from outside only. I really fell in love with it, and the guy said it could go for $1100.

Should i do it?? or should i wait for something on Craiglist/ebay in better price/shape?

ive got an epiphone explorer and i have played the gibson explorer. The gibson explorer is very nice to play and i love how its set-up, i just hate the stock pups in it. If it means anything, i think brendan small uses a Gibson Explorer with EMG's to record all dethklok stuff

He does... emg 81 and 81tw i think...

I love how explorers sound... saw a band from South Africa play a local bar a couple of months ago, one guitarist playing his schecter through a 6505 into a marshall cab, the other guy using loads of gear i'd never heard of and a Gibson Explorer with EMGs in it and I nearly jizzed at his tone...

Dude, take down the details of the one they're selling, model, etc, search it online, you'll find out alot more about it, RRP, body and neck materials... then consider whether its a good deal...

i memorized everything.

it's a 2007 gibson explorer
has stock alinco pickus..im not sure, maybe like a 490r and a 480t but the neck pick up sounded so freaking creamy!!! (i will end up replacing the bridge pu for an 81 for sure)
ebony fretboard
mahogany body
pretty sure it's a tun-o-matic bridge and gibson grovers

i really want that guitar now!!
thanks Teddy, what are the pu's on yours?

I also own one, and it's amazing. The only thing that's odd is the short scale length. Well.. I don't know if it's short, but it feels short, as the bridge feels much closer to the neck that other guitars I own. I've had stocks, emg's and I'm now at some bareknuckle painkillers in them. All of the pups worked quite well, but obviously I'm digging the painkillers much more. I'd say go for it for sure dude. They're great guitars, and they seem to make people play better/faster too! haha

i own one as aswell, i HATEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED the stock pick ups for metal, for clean tones and rock or whatever sounds good, but when you try to get a nice clear high gain tone. they just dont do it very well sound thin. at least from what i remember, i put a zakk wylde set of emgs in it and sounds much better. although i have recently decided i like passive pickups more, i have two other gibson guitars ones a les paul supreme the other a es-137 with the combo
Neck Pickup 490R
Bridge Pickup 498T

and i love them my favourite pickups.

$1100 is pricey for having dings, though I don't know what sort of distribution Gibson has in Mexico, that might be a steal.

thanks dude...i hardly ever solo. so, the scale length is not a prob. I really liked the way the neck felt.

Bareknuckle huh? everyone is taking about these...Lasse hated them, and some people love them...are those, like the new EMG's or what?

Well. I remember playing a friends guitar who had them installed and I fell in love. I needed something that was good for solos for sure, and great for rhythms. So I talked to the guy from BK, and he hooked me up with an endorsement through them, and suggested the painkillers. They're seriously amazing. They're mid-high output, so they're not TOO crazy. To me they're just right. I definitely prefer them over emgs any day. But that's just me. I'm actually about to upload a clip that had a guitar with some painkillers. :)

Love mine!

Wanted one for years and finally got it, I'll never part with it. I swapped the stock pickups for EMG 81 and 85 though, didn't like the stock ones at all. Also upgraded the tuners for Planet Waves locking with the string cutting.
