HUGHES/THRALL 2 Coming In Early 2007 - Feb. 19, 2006 According to a posting at GHPG.net, legendary vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH) and guitarist Pat Thrall are working closely together again and plan on releasing the long-awaited "Hughes/Thrall 2" CD in early 2007. At the moment, it looks like there will be nine songs in total and in late February/early March, Hughes and Thrall will be going into the studio to record seven brand new songs and also to re-record two others (that have seen the light of day before) as part of some demos recorded back in the day that had ended up on bootlegs. A couple of months later, in May, they will finalize and mix the new recordings in Los Angeles, so it will be completed by the summer.

As previously reported, Hughes' classic 1982 collaboration with guitarist Pat Thrall, entitled "Hughes/Thrall", will be reissued later this year. The unique blend of pop and rock is currently being prepared for a May release via the British label Rock Candy Records. The remastered album will contain one or two previously unreleased (but re-recorded) songs as well.

"Hughes Thrall", acknowledged as one of the finest albums of Hughes' career, was released on Boulevard Records in 1982, toppping the U.S. import charts before being issued in the U.K. on Epic in January 1983. More information about the LP can be found at this location.

Busy, indeed.
Hughes releases, at least, one new album per year.

As for Hughes/Thrall, the songwriting is strong, but it really suffers from an "80s production". It just sounds too....synthetic. A remix is desperately needed. Some of the songs have been released on various Hughes live records over the years and just slay! So much heavier than on the initial release.

Looking forward to this one very much. The version of 'Coast to Coast' on Hughes' 'Burning Japan' album gives me chills everytime.

Great track, indeed.
The very first version of that classic was released in 1971 on the Trapeze record "Medusa" (Hughes, Mel Galley who late joined whitesnake and Dave Holland who later joined Judas Priest and assaulted children)!

If you've never heard Trapeze, you should definitely check out either "Medusa" or "You're the Music...We're Just the Band"....both are heavy, funky blues rock-extravaganzas! :headbang:

Have'em...and had'em on vinyl, all those many years ago as wee young'un.
