GOD FORBID BETTER DAYS
Century Media - 2003
By Rodrigo Escandon
Better Days is a short and sweet EP with the sole intention to give you a little tease of what to expect in the new God Forbid album titled Gone Forever that will be released in February 2004.
The song that should be the main draw are obviously the two new songs which are Better Days and Allegiance. The latter is a very fast, thrashy and melodic tune that shows how the band is maturing as songwriters and improving as musicians. Byron sounds a lot better with his screaming vocals and the chorus features some clean singing as well. The guitars are by Dallas and Doc are both heavy and crushing as well as melodic, there are some very cool melodies found in this song. Allegiance is a much heavier song, that also features some clean spoken singing but the overall feeling that one gets with this song is of a sledgehammer coming right at your skull. That is the great thing I enjoyed about these two songs, the fact that they are so different to each other and hopefully more of this diversity will be found in Gone Forever.
Another song found in this EP is a demo version of Wicked, originally found in Determination and the main difference between the two is that the demo sound a lot more raw and in turn doesnt have such a polished sound. Reject the Sickness and Mind Master are the last two songs found and they are a cool historical reminder of where the band came from and how they are now. I especially enjoyed Mind Master which is a scorcher of a song that is over in just 2 minutes.
Better Days should keep the appetites hungry until Gone Forever is released but the wait is almost over.
