Godsmack?

Or get the DVD if you have capability to watch concerts at your house. I have a feeling these guys come across a lot better live than on record. Like the drum battle...you have to see that to believe it.

The drumming duel is fucking unreal. Sully really shines...
Who would have thought to use timbales in a metal drum duel?!
That's fucking awesome.

Definitely better live. Thier "rock heroes" live tribute to Priest was damn good!

Are you kidding?!! My band covers Hell Bent For Leather, and a few other Preist tunes. I saw that crappy tribute they did. How convienent that they skipped doing guitar solos. It doesn't matter if i like the band or not, but please...if you're going to pay tribute to a Legendary band, do it justice please.:Smug:

Actually he recorded 1 album with them that got shelved for many years, it was released under the name "Unfinished Buisness" in 2003

The album is available alone or as a CD bonus with "Barely Human" special edition. Good album btw.

Me not lyk godsmak.....uh, hmmm...me agre wid u Thoth-Amon.

sorry i got pissed... ok, let me rephrase what i was gonna say...
godsmack's riffs are simply horrid... they are simple to the point of being cavemanish... now i like simplicity and repetition as much as the next guy but this is ridiculous and the amount of AIC rippoff's JEESH!

I can relate! I have a few bands that I like that don't "fly with others". But, if we all liked the same exact bands, or if all bands were awesome to everybody, we couldn't exactly have that smirk of satisfaction when we are into, or discovered a gem in a band that few know of, or "get" so to say.

I always lumped these guys in the nu-metal category, with the drudge of bands that all sounded alike 5-10 years ago. Then a friend of mine gave me a copy of Godsmack's Changes DVD and I was pleasantly SHOCKED.

They are better than they get credit for in a lot of places. They'll never be a favorite of mine but if they came on the radio I wouldn't change the station. The Ex and I saw them play warmup for Metallica a few years back. She'd hounded me for a long time to take her to see Metallica. I had seen them in their prime and really had no desire to tarnish the good memories. We both thought at the end of the night that Godsmack blew Metallica off the stage. We could actually hear Godsmack but Metallica was a sludgy bunch of noise. That particular DVD does kick ass and I have played the drum duel for lots of people -- metal and not -- and all have enjoyed it.

hell they couldn't even come up with an original name so they settled on "Godsmack" after an Alice In Chains track...

They basically started life as an AIC tribute band so there's that connection.

Dude !! I had no idea Shannon Larkin was their drummer. I wrote him off after that crap band Ugly Kid Joe he played for. He was a freaking monster with Wrathchild America. I moshed with him on his birthday during the Pantera/Wrathchild America tour back in the day. Pantera brought him out on stage for his B-day and he stage dove into the crowd and raised hell with the fans watching Pantera. He was one hell of a drummer back then. I bet he is bad-ass now as well.... certainly according to TSO, he must be still kicking ass.

Their drummer Shannon Larkin was in the thrash band Wrathchild America back in the late 80's, eventually changing their name to Souls At Zero. The other drummer you probably saw was their singer Sully Erna, who was also in a Boston based thrash band, Meliah Rage. He only toured with them, and did not appear on any studio albums. My buddy saw them a couple years ago and he said the drum battle was unbelievable!

Good band. I like the first 2 albums. There are some great songs, especially on Awake. I believe the first album was released about this time of year in 1999. At least that's when I remember hearing it for the fist time.

I caught Metallica on the S/T or "Black" tour last. They were still really good, though it was an outdoor venue so the sound could have been better. I think it will be the last time I see them.

Back on topic.......

I think everyone should do what is best for them as far as listening to bands they like/not listening to things they think they won't like.... as it is your life and I am not the music police. However, many years ago I heard a song on the radio.... Fuel's Hemmhorrage (In My Hands) on the radio and went to buy the CD because I liked it so much. Luckily, they had just released a new one and I bought it instead. Still today, it is probably in my top 30 or so releases of all-time (Fuel - Natural Selection) though none of the songs individually compare to Hemmhorrage. Fuel is a radio rock band, but I dig them. The same is true for The Goo Goo Dolls. I don't expect anyone else here to like them, but had I not been in some contact with radio music, I would have missed out on both bands.

well i have to say that some people saids this band is a bad copy of ALICE IN CHAINS, wich i really dont think it is, they are just having some influence for bands like AIC and stuff, and to be honest i love both... i think this is a really good rock band, BLESS
