Well, I have decided to start growing my music collection in a little different
way, I'm going back to 1980 and work my way up to current day, buying all
the good albums on the way.

But, I need your help since I was rather young in 1980 ;) So if you have a
suggestion for an album I should add to my list from the year 1980, reply
to this thread. I will let you know when I go up to 1981.

* = Already owned CD
! = Waiting for order to arrive
= = Ordered, but currently out of stock
? = Not available, ignoring

This is going to be fascinating. According to my collection, the only record I own from 1980 is Iron Maiden's self-titled, so I can't help you there. But it gets more interesting in the following years.

Oh btw, year 1981 will begin when I have the albums from 1980, so it
might be a while, but gives you more time to influence it too.

Tho, I just ordered:
Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard Of Ozz
Genesis - Duke
Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
Dire Straits - Making Movies
Saxon - Wheels Of Steel
Saxon - Strong Arm Of The Law
Van Halen - Women And Children First

Some of them seem to be out of stock, so not sure if they all will arrive.

I also decided that I will not be listening to anything recorded after the
year I am currently "stuck" in. So, right now my playlist is fairly small :)
This ensures that I will actually pay attention to the stuff I buy.

I can also now be found on Last.fm

Queen - The Game (not their best record ever, but well).

Do you like punk at all? Let me know, so that I can give you appropriate recommendations.

Edit: Matse, I joined your merry band on Last.fm.

Now only the battle of Salamis has to join and we can take over the world.

It is impossible to take over the world with less than ten people due to obvious reasons.

Look at my silly new playlist until I get more albums:

Cream - Disraeli Gears
Cream - Wheels Of Fire
Grand Funk Railroad - Grand Funk
Grand Funk Railroad - Closer To Home
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Hawkwind - Doremi Fasol Latido
Hawkwind - Hall Of The Mountain Grill
Lynyrd Skynyrd - (pronounced'leh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd)
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Second Helping
Motörhead - Overkill
Motörhead - Ace Of Spades

I've been known to dabble in it.

Oh, then it's a no-brainer.

The Clash - Sandinista!

Hell, there's The magnificent seven on that.

Also, I suggest that you start from 1979, not 1980, because you don't really want to go through the whole endeavor without The wall.

Thanks!
Don't wanna start further back then 1980, I already have The Wall as a
casette, so I guess I could get that as a CD too (just cos I start at 1980
don't mean I can't go backwards for some goodies :) ).

Why starting only from 1980?

Because I don't have infinite money or time, you have any idea how many
albums this will include and even if they are all from the cheap bin it will be
really expensive later on when people have more suggestions.
Also, I will get some older stuff too, just not everything and it is not any
kind of priority.

The Cure - Boys Don't Cry

Diamondhead - Lightning to the Nations

Boys Don't Cry won't be possible since it was a US release only and I live
in Sweden, but I will add their Seventeen Seconds to the list since it was
released the same year.

Diamond Head was already on the list, but thanks anyway :)

Then go...

Kiss - Destroyer 1976.

I love Kiss, especially in the beginning, their debut is as heavy as it can get. Nothing silly like "I was made for loving you"

I remember liking Destroyer as a kid too, even had a patch of the cover to
go on the back of my jacket. So I will get it, but as I said earlier the older
stuff is not priority.

2 albums closer to the truth.
Diamond Head - Lightning To The Nations
Judas Priest - British Steel

NP: Diamond Head - The Prince

Ghhh, now I have to install my parents printer on this new laptop.
Pretty sweet deal, 17" screen, AMD TL-58, 2Gigs RAM, 256MB
GeForce 8400M and most interestingly a digital TV tuner.
