Going back in time, 1980 -

Not really, I just look thru a lot of bands I remember being from that time
and check them on Librarius Metallicus or on their homepage and sometimes
Wikipedia. I also look at songs that have been covered by newer bands,
things like Metallicas Garage Inc.

Actually why I only got 2 albums now is cos I can get most of the others
from Sweden for cheaper, but some stuff, like the Diamond Head is not
available there, so I get them here. Also talked to the guy at Swamp store
here and the stuff they didn't have can most likely be ordered thru their
website, so I have to email a list to them later.

For encyclopedic reasons Id recommend The Birthday Party - The Birthday Party. Its vinyl only, but it was released on CD as a part of the Hee-Haw compilation in 1988. For those who dont know the band, it was founded by Nick Cave and Mick Harvey, who have become way more famous as the members of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.

Thanks Marduk, since the re-release includes older music it will
fit in with the 1980s for me.

BTW, I am currently also getting pre-1980s stuff, so if you have
any recommendations, let me know, I will not list them here but
I have stuff listed on paper.

Buggles - The Age of Plastic (contains "Video Killed the Radio Star" - it actually still fits in the 1980 category).
Kiss - Dynasty (1979) - I love Kiss, so Im probably not the best adviser. If theres one good thing about this album, its the fact that Criss fucked off. Although his drumming on previous albums is, well, ok, I could never get used to his sloppiness. Both Erics that did the drums for Kiss later were first class. However, this album was recorded by the guy who did Frehleys solo album, cant remember his name now. Hes quite decent.

Theres more to come, probably. Good luck with this. I cant imagine how much money will go into it. I am slowly completing my collection by the CDs from the bands I like, but I am willing to buy no more than 4-5 albums/month. And I buy lots of new shit, which slows it down even more.

Todays purchases:
Blue Öyster Cult - Cultösaurus Erectus
Killing Joke - Killing Joke
The Birthday Party - Hee Haw

As for what comes to Buggles and Kiss, well, one is on my list and so is Yes,
but I doubt I will get Buggles itself as it's not so rock/heavy to count ;)
I have to thank you for the suggestion tho since I had mistakenly put a live
album from Yes on my list and I really don't want those that much, so I
changed the list to include the Buggles/Yes album Drama which came out in
1980 it seems.

And yes, this will be expensive in both time and money and since time = money
I'm going to be broke most of the time ehehheheh lucky for me most of the old
stuff is fairly cheap, still it's finding it that is the hard part.

To throw in my opinion: I think this is an awesome idea. I couldn't do it (no money) but a lot of it appeals to the collector/completest in me. Good luck! As for suggestions, I don't have many. This period was a bit before I was born, and I don't know a lot about eighties music in relation to other time periods. I think you're probably fine though, you've got plenty of albums (listed).

Todays purchases:
Van Halen - Women And Children First

Well, I finally received that is.
Nice, 12 new CDs since last update.

Just out of curiosity, are you willing to buy remastered/reissued releases with bonus tracks if you can't find the original album anymore, or is that not "records from the year 1980" anymore?

Of course, most of the stuff I have is remasters, I even mention the bonus
tracks as an exception on my Last.fm journal.

Todays purchases:

Alice Cooper - Trilogy: Billion Dollar Babies/Schools Out/Killer
Kiss - Destroyer
Blue Öyster Cult - Agents Of Fortune
Accept - I'm A Rebel
Pink Floyd - The Wall (2CD)
Angelwitch - Angelwitch
Petty Tom & The Heartbreakers - Damn The Torpedoes

The Alice Cooper was too good to pass up, 99kr (~€10) for 3 albums, sweet.

EDIT: Ups, hold that thought, add these too.

AC/DC - Back In Black
Kiss - Unmasked
Queen - The Game
Black Sabbath - Heaven And Hell
Thin Lizzy - Chinatown
Rush - Permanent Waves

Currently waiting for the following to arrive:

Jethro Tull - A
Yes - Drama
Alice Cooper - Flush The Fashion
The Cure - Seventeen Seconds
Budgie - Power Supply

Also it seems 1980 will come to an end on 11.04.2008 for me, that is when
Molly Hatchets Beatin' The Odds remaster is coming out and I will order the
stuff that is still on my list, which luckily isn't that much anymore.

I have decided to stick to my 2 online stores in Sweden, Ginza and CDon,
so if they don't have something, I won't order it.

Ok, last 2 albums of 1980, that I'm able to get, have now been ordered.
U2 - Boy
The Clash - Sandinista!

Therefore I will start a new thread for 1981 shortly.

I would recommend Cirith Ungol - Frost and Fire if it's not too late..
Other than that.. I can't really think of anything to add.. Just make sure to get (if you don't have them already) Sad Wings of Destiny, Sin after Sin, Stained Class and Killing Machine/Hell Bent for Leather if you like Judas Priest/NWOBHM..

Priest albums are on the pre-1980s list (the one in my head).
Added Cirith Ungol to my 1980 list in the new thread.
