I've been forgetting to post it here, but I'm going to see the Scorpions next Saturday. I've never seen them, and I was a huge fan in the 80s, up through Blackout, though my attention wained a bit around Love at First Sting (a fine album, no doubt, but no Blackout). Hopefully they'll play some of the 70s and early 80s stuff. Sammy Hagar is headlining. I'll stick around for a bit of that, but probably not all. I like him fine, but I seriously doubt he'll be doing the stuff I want to hear (Montrose stuff, early solo stuff).

Still, Scorps, not too shabby.

I'll report after. I really am a big fan, having lost touch with them or not. Those 70s records are killer, and the 80s stuff is not mentioned nearly enough in comparison to records by Priest and Maiden. Screaming for Vengeance, Number of the Beast, and Blackout all came out in '82. I still think of that as a watershed year for mainstream, yet heavy (at the time) metal. Blackout really should be mentioned in conjunction with those two albums for shear greatness. I remember thinking of it as a really good year, even at the time...when I had no idea the dips and turns all those bands would take in the future.

Now, if only they'd play China White...probably a bit too much to hope for, but I'm sure the show will be killer either way.

I saw Sammy Hagar 2 days ago and he was incredible. Well worth sticking around for the whole show. He puts on a killer live show and every song he played, I knew. He did Rock Candy, and Bad Motor Scooter as well as a number of his early career hits. Not to mention the fact that the guitarist in his band now should be heralded as one of the next great guitar heroes.

Also saw Skid Row (who absolutely tore the place up), Ted Nugent, Great White, Joan Jett and Lee Aaron.

I saw them in '84 and '88, and 4 times since '96. They never disappoint, and IMO one the best live bands ever. They also like to throw you a curve every so often...they played Animal Magnetism when I saw them 5 years ago.:worship:

There's a good chance you'll hear some 70's stuff. I've seen them do In Trance and We'll Burn the Sky in recent years.

I prefer Love at First Sting to Blackout.

Wiz, get ready for Mas Tequila.:puke:

From what I understand, the scorps actually have been playing some 70s era tunes in recent years (I believe We'll Burn the Sky and In trance are regulars).

However, if you havent already, you MUST drop everything, race out to the local record store and immediately purchase their latest - Humanity I. We often talk of 'classic' bands that persistently release great, if not classic, records well into their careers. Motorhead, Maiden, & Saxon are examples of such bands. The Scorpions, however, have not been. Until HUMANITY I, that it.

It's NOT a return to the Blackout sound. Not at all. What it is is a monumental display of damned-perfect songwriting. It's one of those albums that contains not a second of filler!!

Check it out.

I did see them just 2 days ago. The gig was pretty good. Most of the songs was from the 80`s if I remember right
and one song from the new album. I did hoped that they play alien nation but it didint come.At least they played Dynamite cos is one of my favorite song.
Only thing to complain is that drum was too loud and I couldn`t hear quitars so well and beer was too expensive.

I've heard that when Sammy plays with the Wabo's band he does not perform any Montrose or old school Sammy.... sadly cuz I really would like to hear some 70's Sammy.

I'll be at the OC Pacific Amplitheater for the show. We got to vote on which songs we'd like to hear but of course they won't post the results. Last time in CA they played 3 tracks from Humanity and I expect them to do the same.

Agree w/ soundmaster- Humanity Hr 1 is a fantastic release. Great flow, production, sound but again don't expect a blackout album.

Just back from this show.

It was great! The sound was absolutely spot on; well mixed, everything out in front, not too loud, not too quiet. The setlist was a very basic meat and potatoes best of, but that was fine, since I've never seen them before. I think the Zoo was the oldest thing they played. They played Coast to Coast too, and generally concentrated on the 80s string of records (Animal Magnetism through Love at First Sting). Again, all fine.

Klause sounds so good for a man of 59 or 60 (i forget which), and gets my vote for the Ronnie James Dio old guy/good voice statuette this year. They opened with "Hour 1" which was really good, I must say. I'll have to buy that new record.

Not much else to say, they looked good, sounded good, it was a lot of fun! Funny, but it's always kinda easy to take the Scorpions for granted (it was even kinda easy in the 80s, somehow, great as they can be at times), but they have been plugging away for years, more or less intact, while Maiden, Priest, Heaven and Hell/Sabbath, and various other our-singer-is-back-in-the-band tours sell tons of tickets. Hats off to 'em! Very glad I went.
I stayed only for a few songs by Sammy Hagar, as I didn't figure him to play too many of the songs I'd wanna hear, and have never been a huge fan in any case (though he's fine enough...for say...the odd summer afternoon). The only records I ever owned were Rematch (very good), and V.O.A. He played There's Only One Way to Rock and I Can't Drive 55 straight out of the box, so I figured, "I get the picture," and decided to beat the traffic out of there. He was playing Your Love is Driving me Crazy as I left. Plus, I confess the whole Jimmy Buffet beach bum rock guy thing he's doing right now is not my bag...Nothing wrong with it, but it's not for me.

So, pardon the lack of deep details here. It feels nice to have put the Scorpions notch on my belt, and before they are utterly past their prime. They still sound vital.

Fun show.

And, frankly, as I drove home it really crossed my mind how the metal resurgence is pretty much full tilt at this point. Before the year closes I'll have seen Maiden, Priest, Scorpions, Black Sabbath with Dio, Testament, Motorhead, Ace Frehley, and UFO - not to mention all the more contemporary/new school bands I've seen as well. Don't get me wrong, this is pretty amazing to me, but I would have keeled over in 1984 if I had such a great year. But then, I was only 13, and lived in the middle of nowhere.

Funny how things work that way.

Now, I'm starting to think I can wish that Zeppelin, Mercyful Fate, Jimi Hendrix, Celtic Frost tour into reality.

Nice! Glad you enjoyed the show.

I've seen the Scorps a handful of times in recent years ('03 with Dokken & Whitesnale; '99 with Motley Crue) and they've NEVER disappointed. They're a great live band as evidenced by their live releases.

I think that too many metal fans do indeed take them for granted. But it's hard not to witness the greatness of this band up to the mid 80s. Not many bands released stronger material between 1975 - 1985. And their two most recent records have really kicked ass!

Here's the set list from Konacti show, should be same thru next few shows in U.S. My show is tonite and I CANNOT WAIT!!!

The Scorpions have always been with me and it amazes me (although I know it shouldn't) how many people aren't aware they've been making albums since Love at First Sting. Their promotion in the States has not been pushed at all since that album and with radio the way it is these days you'll hear the same rotating songs on Classic Rock stations and little else. I imagine we could lump a few other bands in this grouping however on par I'd say that those other "classic rock" acts are doing much better with tix and album sales.

THE SETLIST
1. Hour 1
2.Coming Home (full version)
3.The Zoo
4.No Pain No Gain
5.Coast To Coast

From all the classic bands that are touring regularly, maybe The Scorps are the ones I saw less. Only, a couple of times. And that´s not for the fact they didn´t play well (there were excellent shows). It was more as kind of personal problem with the set list. 80´s stuff is amazing but I prefer their 70´s ("Tokyo tapes" one of the best live albums ever :worship:). Just "We´ll burn the sky" and in their last European tour "In trance".

Besides, I was unlucky ´cause I´ve never seen "No one like you", my favourite Scorpions hit.

Finally, I agree with you, "Humanity-Hour I" is quite good (and "Unbreakable" too) but I don´t know why they don´t play "The game of life".

PS: If you´re tired of Sammy Hagar, please tell him to play in Spain, only Hagar stuff and Montrose songs. :headbang:

I had a phenomenal time at the show. there were some complaints of muddy sound, out of tune guitars, too much bass and other stuff, but I heard none of it. I was about 4th row maybe it was because of that, maybe it was becuase I was singing along so loud. Pictures and a loooong review can be found at myspace/metalkittybeast

Complaints coming in from AZ show last night as well.
