Golf

re: greatest sportsmen of all time; the answer to that is Don Bradman (cricket) - fact. No one comes close to dominating their sport as much. He is pretty much twice as good as any other player to have ever played. Further to that he walloped Babe Ruth in a home run hit out once (and he doesn't even play baseball) and was able to shoot his age in golf.

*edit* and the Don played in pretty much the worst conditions for batsmen in cricket's history with the quality of pitches and also the infamous bodyline series.

That's pretty impressive, thanks for the info.

I think buried in the rough is by far the hardest shot. Sand bunkers (depending on location) really aren't all that bad. If you get into grass and weeds it's damn near impossible to get it out, let alone make a good shot with it.

Well, I think it also depends on how thick the rough actually is. It would probably take me 4-5 shots to get out of the rough some of the pros hit out of, where as I could go to some courses down the street and stick the ball 10 feet from the pin out of certain spots. It is still tough regardless.

This thread isn't about cricket, either. Get that shit outta here.

no it's not about cricket, but other people were talking about the greatest sportsmen of all time. i felt the need to bring "the Don" to their attention.

anyhow, there are a number of very difficult shots in golf. a long pressure put down hill would be one of them. hardest shot i've played was probably playing off a hill out of sand, down to a green running into a lake. needless to say, i took about 6 shots to get to the green.

The hardest shot, is the first tee shot when you are hungover with some friends and a stranger thrown into the pairing.

Honestly, I would have to say the fairway bunker shot. Not necessarily difficult...but my fairway bunker shot goes as far as my greenside bunker shot, about ten yards. The shot out of the thick rough can be the hardest, given distance control, club control, and just flat out trying to make contact.

I've taken six shots out of a normal greenside bunker.
