You all should check out Goloco. It's basically a ridesharing service for social networks and friendship groups. I'll admit that I'm working for them trying to get people to use it. Even so, it's actually a pretty nifty service and should be used. It just started about a month ago, so it's still in the early stages.
Basically you and your friends join and form online groups on the site. Then if you need to drive somewhere, you post a trip. Say you're going to a show in Boston, you can post a trip there and people you know or have a similar interest can join you. Helps on the whole limiting of C02 emissions and such.
