Good overall saturation?

I'd like to bring up the 2k-8k saturation without lacking the ball or killing the mix. can you suggest any method to that? Im thinking that maby adding some presence to guitars may do wonders also?

When you do this:

The guitars seem to go further. When you do it the other way, they get more in your face.
