The purpose of this thread is for you to vent on how a band made a song significantly worse in some sort of way.

Ill start...

I really love "The Glass Prison" by Dream Theater but that wickedy-wick scratchy part just KILLS me!!! Yarghh!!!!111

I remember that part now that you mention it, and I hate it. Who did that, by the way? Was it a keyboard effect by Rudess or was it Petrucci's pick on the strings?

i dont think that scratching can be produced on strings (well not that type of scratching)

It IS thrown in while playing live but you can only see Petrucci choppin rythm and its kinda hard to tell WHAT derek is doing.

Not just the scratching but the bonehead nu-metal riff that's playing underneath it too

i was gonna post that as well but though that i ought not bash Petrucci..

"Twilight Symphony" by Stratovarius is such an awesome song until the end where it just goes down the toilet. I mean, it's got a killer riff, I love the vocal melody, but then it goes into this really slow and boring part all the way to the end of the song. Totally ruins it.

i hate to perpetuate the dream theater thread we've got goin here in the symph x forum, but with regard to the 42 min 6DOIT track (dsc 2), it has grown on me and Im starting to enjoy it with the exception of goodnight kiss and the beginning of solitary shell, which are both heavily LaBrie influenced tracks in terms of song writing, uh god, dont let him near the brilliant song writing process that myung, petrucci and ruddess got goin. So yeah, 6DOIT, good song. . . .GONE BAD in middle.

quick note, I tried to think of a symph track that's good gone bad, and i could never fulfill the later portion that would qualify it as such, wooooooooo, all bow to the X!

I know how much the song is embraced on this forum but that midsection keyboard part in Eyes of Medusa is SOOOOOOOOOOOO out of place. It's like the song cuts out and does something that definetely should NOT be there, then cuts back into the song...

I assume you've heard the song live, but if you havn't, you may retract that statement after hearing it live

Light of day, day of darkness. The soprano/sax part in the middle just kills the killer flow of the song... for about 6 minutes. but the rest of the song is killer and the first part is godly, so it doesn't RUIN it... just breaks up the flow.
