Goth metal

Sirenia rawk!!!!!

They would be an excellent representative of this genre. Those big, meaty riffs would appeal to lots of Power Metal fans. 'At Sixes and Sevens' is a fantastic disk.

Yes, Sirenia would be an excellent addition to the bill. I've suggested them myself a couple of times ;)

As for other similar Gothic Metal bands, check out:

Tristania (The band Morten Veland was with before Sirenia)
The Sins Of Thy Beloved
Theatre of Tragedy (the older material)
Darkwell
Trail of Tears
Beseech (although they seem to teeter on the slightly commercial side of things)

Alternatively, just find a good record shop and look for any album on Napalm records with breasts on the front cover.

I really liked the new CD from The Crest though I would consider it more along the lines of Dark Goth Rock with some metal influences. They've been compared to Theater of Tragedy. Trail of Tears is another favorite or mine as well as Lake of Tears .

Hmm, wouldnt call samael goth metal... Id like tristania, the sins of thy beloved, graveworm, moonspell, tenhi, of the wand and the moon, katatonia or to/die/for, but somehow I doubt any of them will be contacted :-\

Both of those, especially mercury rain from what ive heard are more power metal than anything, nightwish have the operatic vocals and keyboards thrown in though

I was going to argue that Nightwish are not really g-m, but shall we agree that that they are a borderline case?
And what do you think of Edenbridge and After Forever?

By the way, did anyone else notice the whitesnake riff from Still Of The Night on the Sirenia album?!

No I wouldn't class Nightwish as GM either. They're not really dark enough...

EdenBridge are a little too commercial for my tastes, but yeah After Forever are top. 'Cipher' is a great album. Some parts on the the first one or two tracks are awesome...

Yeah I knew about the Lacuna thread, (I posted on it) I ment no-one has mentioned it hear. Tho' Therion would be sweet second stage headliners, the problem is that they usually have Cradle of Filth's Sarah as their singer when they're live (well they did last time I checked) but she'll be on tour with Cradle on Ozfest, so they may have problems with a replacement

I have to agree Therion would be a good band to see.
About the Nightwish genre, I have seen Nightwish classed as Death metal for god's sake! www.deathmetal.com
Some good bands on that webby though.
I dont know if any of you have heard of a band called Wolfen Society but they are a 5 man band made by Reverant Vincent Crowley from Acheron, Lord Ahriman (Dark Funeral) plays the bass.
