I probably shouldn't be the one to start this thread as I am not very up-to-date nor do I really pay much attention at all to political shit, but.....

thoughts or comments on this matter?

Been reading a little about it but I don't really know enough to make any sort of bold statement.

Long story short the tea party Republicans want to gut healthcare even though it is already law and they are prepared to ruin the country to appease a small minority of extreme right wingers. There is a shitload of misinformation out there trying to make the affordable care act look like the worst thing ever proposed and its almost all false info that you can disprove with 5 minutes research. This looks absolutely pathetic to most people outside the US and it is a real shame that the minority party is allowed to destroy everything (which affects us all economically) because they think people being able to get healthcare for the first time is a terrible idea. Keep in mind the people responsible for this are still getting pay and have some of the best healthcare in the country.

Oh well, I just have to keep reminding myself Im not a US citizen.

I should also mention this is not all Republicans in favpur of this, it is mostly the ones that are in the pocket of the Tea Party which happen to be the loudest. A lot of people in the party are at odds with eachother now, and they know it is hurting them. So at least there is some hope of getting back on track

Well...except for anyone who wants to go to a national park, veterans, people collecting federal unemployment benefits, federally funded research laboratories, 700k government workers, the entire city of Washington, federal contractors...

The really scary thing is the debt ceiling limit we'll be hitting in a couple of weeks. If the Republicans don't cave- which they might not, since they have literally no chance of gutting Obamacare, and they decided to shut the government down anyway, meaning they have no strategic game plan or objective- I suspect we'll be shut down for the next couple of weeks and Obama will say, "Either give me a clean Continuing Resolution or we hit the debt ceiling." If we hit the debt ceiling, it would actually cause a substantial global and domestic economic crisis, so hopefully that won't happen.

A shutdown is not the same thing as a default, btw. A shutdown just means we aren't paying our domestic bills. A default means we aren't paying our creditors domestically and internationally, and it's a far, far bigger deal.

I really never got into any of the political crap, ever. I hear so many people arguing about it and I feel like none of it really affects my daily life aside from gas and cigarette prices, so fuck it.

Most political arguments are "derp Obama" versus "derp Obama sucks" arguments, but as someone in a sort-of swing state, voting is statistically meaningful for you. So at least you've got that!

This is why I could never vote republican. Democrat leaders are horrible and corrupt but they are the lesser of two evils. Republican leaders are worse, pulling stunts like this in the name of Jesus when I am like 99% sure Jesus would have supported universal health care. Ya pretty certain of that.

All sides of politics have corruption but the Republican party is by far the worst. Its all about who is lining their pockets (corporations who dont want to pay taxes amd think the poor and middle class should pay the debt and still wants to take away healthcare) and religious idealism. Mostly money though. Theyd rather watch people suffer and lose benefits than do whst a majority of americans want.

Its shitty because old school republicans from the 50s would be appaled that the current party wants to take away social security and privatize it (making it for profit thus making money off it), cut veteran benefits, takes away educational and nutritional programs, raise the retirement age and now defund the first working federal healthcare law the US has had so everyone can get it and cheap. All to save money so the rich dont have to pay higher taxes or capital gains tax. Its on the brink of insanity

I hate Obama as much as the next guy, but this shit is merely political grand standing in order to make the Obama terms even worse then they already are. They will use this in the next political campaign as ammo, and lots of it......

Everything in theis country needs to be severely changed and the constitution needs to be ratified so that current issues with healthcare, & government spending are addressed.

What ever happened to no taxation without representation? Thats why we fought in the first place!

It's the House of Representatives. Their districts are gerrymandered to within an inch of their lives. Most of them are in 85+% white districts with religious, rural, conservative voters. They'll totally get re-elected in the House. But you're right, it will do serious damage in the Senate (in some states, at any rate) and absolutely for their future presidential prospects.

Plain and simple what it comes down to is we need term limits for the senate and house of reps as well. This homesteading bullshit is WAY out of hand!
