Anyone see the metal category- POD, Slipknot- Stone Sour-Korn-and some other talentless band. So, if anyone cares- who will win?
One would think System of Down would be placed in this category, at least they have talent and originality.

As i was thinking how bad these choices are, I couldnt help but thinking how few decent American metal releases there were this year- Im thinking Isis, Shadows Fall, Symphony X, and is agalloch american? Anyway i feel few american bands are worth a shit, and the few that are, like testament, didnt put anything out this year.

Stone Sour is actualy a highly original band lyrically, and i personally find there lyrics interesting. This says alot coming from someone who is listening to satyricon right now.

I think that the fault lies with stations playing shit while calling it "metal". I guess we're also too extreme for mainstream. I'll ask people what they listen to and they'll be like "I listen to heavy-ass shit like <insert nubie bands here>" and I'll change it around on them and respond with "oh....well, I mainly listen to accually heavy bands like <insert old school bands here>....but they're too extreme for you if you listen to those bands."

I like a few new bands myself tho like SOAD, disturbed and Lolli-pop Lust Kill(they have a few good songs).

One cannot really fault the grammys selections, as other categories are just as dismal. Three doors down, brittany spears, etc. have been nominated for album of the year. Its not as if the grammys are actually rewarding musical talent. Its like that Simpsons episode, when homer and the four tops win the grammy, and he either throws the grammy away , or tries to give it away- i cant remember.

a guy- slipknot at least tries something musically- unlike so many bands like pod, still I just dont get what the hell they are trying to do musically- i wonder if they know what they are trying to do.

it's all a fix, the whole thing. who are these mysterious people that are on the panel of the grammy committee that decide which records 'win'?!?!
i mean come on, carlos santana came from out of the blue and won something ridiculous like 15 grammys. it's all so see-through...
i could not give 2 shits about the grammys...

Do you know who Carlos Santana is?? He's one of the greatest guitar players of all time....out of the blue??? What the..

As for wanting bands I like to become "Grammy worthy" all I have to say is HELL NO I DON'T WANT MY BANDS ON THE GRAMMY LIST!!! Main stream fame is a catalyst for shit music! Look at Metallica! At least the bands we like can pretty much write the way they want and stay true to metal...while I want fame and fortune for my bands...I don't want the capitalistic element to get ahold of them...

Mainstream...bad

1) Carlos Santana is extremely overatted and to place him on a list of great guitarist is musical Blasphemy
2) Disturbed is one of the worst bands i have ever heard

Personally system of a down syndrome sucks cow balls, but then again so do all the other grammy nominees. Who cares anyway? Its all commercial corporate music in those things.
As far as Carlos Santana coming out of nowhere, thats pretty funny because his band SANTANA was around back in the 60's
Personally that song he got nominated for a few years ago is an annoying steaming turd. I was never a big Santana fan, and while I think he was a damn good guitarist hes certainly not in the same league as Steve Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix

I disagree MindInsane, with this statement:

"Personally system of a down syndrome sucks cow balls, but then again so do all the other grammy nominees."

The reasons for my disagreement, are that, System of the down uses some rather interesting middle eastern scales, Serj is a wonderful singer- he almost has a mike patton feel to him, and the music is always fun- they dont bore us with only 4 min songs etc- they have those short one or two minute punkish songs, that i find refreshing. Finally , because of the aforementioned reasons, they are the only mainstream band i find to be original.

Yet, I do support the statement that all of the other grammy nominees suck.

WTF speed??? I didn't say anything about System of a Down(syndrome) Pay attention dude..

You people are suprising me about Carlos..he happens to be one of the greatest..right up there with SRV. Have you ever even listened to him (aside from "Smooth"??) Didn't think so..I mean come on..I would hope people who are smart enough to get into a band like Testament could at least recognize and appreciate talent..even if it's not the style they would choose to listen to or purchase..he's a piece of guitar history..innovative and talented to say the least.

What is weird is that Carlos has been around forever yet he won his first grammy with 'smooth'.

My opinion is that Carlos is a good guitarist, but Stevie Ray Vaughn blows him away, hands down.

Disturbd and SOAD are hella lot better bands than Korn, POD, or any of the others on the grammy list regardless what your favorite bands are.

The Grammy's really do seem to be fixed. A good example of this is back in ('99?) when all the proformers who played that night won a grammy. I thought that sucked ass.
Part of me would hate to see a good band up there with the posers and nubies. Part of me would be glad if it happened though because in a way it is a symbol of success. All I know is that I'll probrably watch a few minutes of it 'cause I know my mom will be watching it, but the grammy's have been sucking a lot the last few years.

The bottom line I believe is: Who cares about the Grammy's? Regardless, it's a waste of air time; I'd watch Monster Garage over that any day.

I don't know why you guys complain about this. It's been a load of shit ever since they gave this "genre" an award. jethro tull won in '88 and then metallica wins the following the year for a single, which was a cover a queen song (stone cold crazy). Geesh. If you didn't get the message then that the grammy metal category isn't metal, you never will.

Anyways.......

It's all about the norweigian grammy awards. In 2001 the metal category consisted of Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, and Borknagar. 3 of the best albums put out that year and Dimmu's and borknagar's best.

yea, but too bad we don't get to see the norweigian metal grammy's. And either way you look at it, grammys around the world suck, granted they might be better than ours (what a surprise) they still an always will suck.
