Remember, the Grammies are decided by those who belong to the RIAA (i.e. those affiliated labels of the Big 5 majors). Most of the independents will never receive nominations or recognition from the R.I.A.A. unless they are bought up by one of the Big 5 or they can financially afford a way to get on the bill. Therefore, don't expect an unbiased show.
Also, lately, it seems that the Grammies have only been going to the most popular of artists that are nominated. It makes me wonder if the record companies have been purchasing the votes simply so they can have yet another way to promote these artists whose creative peaks were finished a long time ago or never really were worth the time and money spent to manufacture their product (like Avril Lavigne).
