I`m not looking for great sounding kicks, bone-crushing guitars or automation tricks. Just something that has great and sort of "unique" overall sound in your opinion. Sub-genre doesn`t really matter...just metal.

I hope I made any sense:loco:

I think the new Dream Theater album is an example of a great metal mix that isn't sampled to shit, it sounds pretty natural, especially the drums.

Converge records, the newest one Axe to Fall is really great sounding. Fantomas the Directors Cut, alot of avant weird stuff but there is a fair amount of them just jamming standard metal stuff and its done in a very unique way.

Not necessarily all metal but here's some recent-ish stuff I think sounds awesome:

Mastodon - The Hunter
Kylesa - Spiral Shadow
Black Pyramid - I & II
Red Fang - Murder the Mountains
In Flames - A Sense of Purpose
Karma To Burn - Appalachian Incantation
Kvelertak - Kvelertak
Down - Over the Under
Karnivool - Sound Awake
Fair to Midland - Arrows & Anchors

And yeah, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster album fo' sho!

type dinqee at youtube and look up his/her channel. most of the stuff is rock/metal. if you don't like radio mixes, and this is just a generali, try something else. but if your looking for something to wrap to and want to discover unheard of bands don't look back!

definitely Masters Hammer - Ritual (1991) ...its really unusual... Vocals are panned off center and drums and guitars are panned center I think... It's hard to tell because the album was super ultra underground when it was released, so the sound quality is maybe not the best...

Damn Drew, loving your bands stuff. Best part about it is there isn't a mouth breathing angry guy screaming.

thumbs up!

Cheers bro! :)

Yeah... balls to cookie monster/cutter vocals. We like a bit of texture and dynamics. Originally we were an all instrumental band, and the preconditions for getting a vocalist were that he would be considered another instrument. Not a frontman, and not a screaming ballbag. Think we succeeded on the not screaming bit anyways.

Oh, that's just the Waves Oneknob Flubby and 'orribilator I slapped on the mastering chain.

Ah sweeets man! Maybe you can send me a preset for that, and we can use it on every single album we produce until 2033!!
