Having finally learned how to use my DVD burning software, I attempted this afternoon to copy something for an interstate friend who came to visit. I've sometimes had problems with no-name brands, so I did what I thought was the right thing by using TDK DVD-RWs.

Of course my computer (which is supposed to be able to read rewritables) didn't even recognise the damn things. What's going on here and is there any way of fixing it?

Take the disc, and rest it against a glass in the microwave oven.

If you are at all concerned about the oven, half fill the glass with water.

Put the microwave on high, and let rip for 30 seconds or so...

It's really neat.

Even cheap CDRs look great when configured this way.

you're not getting your -'s and +'s mixed up with the burner or anything?

You know...trying to use dvd-'s in a burner thats made for dvd+'s?

Otherwise...no idea...could be a dodgy batch of cd's.

Verbatim is now my brand of choice. Thanks, Brian :).

When did TDK turn shit? I've never had a problem with either their blank tapes or CD-Rs until recently, but I guess there's more that can go wrong with DVDs.

I haven't had too many problems with TDK.... It might be worth just formatting the disk (do the full format thingo, not the quick erase thingo), and then reburn it.... No harm trying if it's a rewritable disk.
